Zometa | Arthritis Information

Hello to all. I have PMR for 3 years now and I am taking up Janie's advice to ask for some advice from you kind folk. I also have osteoporosis fracture from taking Pred and cannot tolerate oral Fosamax , Actonel ect. Recently I have tried Protos but this too is causing me problems.

I have seen a new Rheumy and she has offered me Zometa. Generic Name: Zoledronic acid. Also Mtx and Plaquenil.

I take Tramadol for pain relief. Nexium and Tamaze. I am now back down to 5mg Pred after having a major flare when I dropped to 4mg when I got the fracture back in May 08.

Any advice, anyone heard of Zometa? anything would be greatfully received. I am a little scared by all these drugs and more side effects, but Know one day PMR might go away!

Hey Lyn, thankyou for your reply on the PMR board, I am glad you came here as acouple of our ladies have your condition, and the members here are very kind and informative, best of luck, Janie.

PS I took part in the trial of Zometa and I definitely had the drug! It was given by infusion and boy did it work, I felt like Harry Potter when he grows a new bone to fix the broken one! I had to have pain relief, but it was a once a year infusion, I reckon it was worth it as my BMD actually improved.

Hi Lyn, It's good to see you again! I'm sorry to hear you are going through such an ordeal, I wish I had some advice for you, but I don't have any experience with any of these meds. It sounds like Janie does though, and with good results. Hopefully others will jump in with their own take on these.

Wow, Janie how unreal is this! To be actually able to talk with someone who has trialed this drug.!! If there is anything you can think of, can you please let me know, but only if you are up to it!!! Read your allergy post today and so sorry you have more unwanted pain.x
