Maybe take a long hot bath and then call dr in morning and see if you can get a cortizone shot. They shots really helped my hips one time.

IS there a weather front coming in? Maybe could be prob??
I hope you feel much better soon!
I know, it is frustrating when no one responds!  You just never know with how the board goes.  I am responding so you know I am thinking of you, but unfortunately I'm not sure what to suggest!  Does it hurt on the outside or the inside?  Definitely need to see the doc about that!  Like your siggy says, hang in there!!Do you have any pain meds?
Hi LMM, use heat if you can, pain meds if you have or take some OTC and call your doctor in the morning.  Sounds like you need a Pred. pack or an adjustment in your meds.  Try and get in to see your doctor.  LindyMermaid,

I'm not sure what to tell you other than call you Doctor to get an emergency appt and some pain intervention.

This board isn't helpful in most aspects.  Only long term members seem to help each other on here and that's about it.  But it's good to check on it every now and then and see if there's any new info on here.

Go to this forum and join up, very compassionate people and so knowlegeable about all apsects of RA!  You'll love it there:

I get that on occasion; my hip just seems to lock up and hurt like hell.  It usually lasts for a few days.  Medrol, naproxen and avoiding a 90-degree angle in my hip usually helps get rid of it.  I have a "kneeling" chair at work that I use when the hip is acting up - that way I don't have to fully bend at the hip to sit down.
I've had my hips flare, but never lock up where they're impossible to move.  Hope you can get it under control tomorrow Lil M.  And I hope you aren't up all night with the pain.  That makes for such a looooong night.Oh, and sometimes a muscle relaxer helps - even if it's not a muscle thing.  When there's lots of pain like that, you tend to tense up the muscles surrounding the joint, which can make things even worse. Hi Mermaid, sorry your posts are going unnoticed. Try hot and cold packs, rest as well and try to get to a doctor as soon as possible or your ER department.
Let us know how things turn out
Take care and thinking of you

Hi Mermaid, sorry to hear of your troubles, the only thing I can suggest is what works for me, heat, rest and pain relief such as Tramadol and I am on regular oxycontin, my pain has been much better controlled since my GP made the oxycontin a regular pain med with Tramadol for breakthrough and don't forget good old panadol, it sometimes helps when all else fails!  Best of luck, don't take it personally that your posts weren't answered, its a busy time for lots of people and I think we all get caught up in our own lives, I try to answer as many as poss and I start usually at the top, and can normally cope with about 6, maybe I should start at the bottom littlemermaid- hope you are feeling better today! I don't have any new advice but I did want to say I am sorry if I missed your last post. How was your visit home?LM, I am so sorry that no one answered your previous post. That's terrible.

I have had this happen too. Just a bit of RA fun stuff. Hi Littlemermaid,

I hope you are feeling better.  I really can't add much but think you have recieved really good advice.  Please see a doctor if your hip is frozen up.  Muscle relaxers oftern help with that.  Did I remember you posting in the past that you are a college student?  If so, perhaps you can go to student health and they can prescribe something for the pain.  Anyway, I do hope you feel better and keep us posted on your proggress...Hiking_gal
Hello Littlemermaid , The bath thing is a good idea and to ice after.
I always think of Tramadal as a light pain killer, maybe you need
something stronger for when you have pain like this.

Hope you're feeling better today LM.Hope you are feeling better.I'm also curious if it is on the inside, or the outside of the hip.  Before my meds kicked in I had a flare on the inside of my hip, almost the groin.  It was EXCRUCIATING!  I basically rode it out because the worst of it was overnight.  It hurt to lay down, sit, everything!  I basically shuffled around the house and attempted to lay down every now and then which I couldn't accomplish until morning.

Let me know how you managed.  La
Hi Littl M...just wondering how you did last night.  Feeling better?i know you are away from home. Maybe the doctor can call you something in. If you don't tell them you are away from home you can have the pharmacy transfer it. Or maybe they would still call something in if you explain you are out of town. Good Luck and feel better soon. Thanks everyone for your comments. My trip home was alright I enjoyed myself but my joints did not. You know as bad as the pain was I cant remember if it was on the inside of the outside....it didnt hurt so much when i didnt move at ALL and kept it in the right position it was as soon as i shifted and tried to move my leg....anyway after a few hours i could move it again and put wieght on it, thankgoodness its so wierd how it just comes and goes, hips and shoulder and ankles were bothering me more than my other joints last night but i was def able to sleep, i sleep soooooo much lol today they still hurt, but what else is new, the good thing is they dont feel like they are stuck or popping out lol so ya. I have tramadol-thats my pain killer, i take it everyday sometimes multiple times, my doc doesnt want to put me on higher and i dont think i want higher anyway. I have prednisone and COULD call her and she would tell me to take it....im debating if its worth it. alrigthy i need to go get some foood. thanks again for all your support!Glad you're feeling  little better.sorry you weren't answered before LM... but sometimes if you post in the wee hours and no one knows what to say... your thread can be bumped back a page or so..

glad things are a little better for you now.

I agree with jasmine, I have Flexiril (muscle relaxer) I don't take it often, but it does help when I have alot of pain. I try to not take it until I know I can sleep, like before bed, if I take it during day it make me very drowsy. Take care, rest with ice and heat.

Hi L'mermaid,
My hips give me trouble as well. unpredictable as with ra in general.
you may have a cyst or loose cartilage on a nerve, or just mean old ra being its unpredictable monster self. hard to know the source of that sort of thing.

everyone here gave good advice, as someone said, I usually rest the affected area. of course it forces you to rest by making it where you can't walk. but I would just take it easy for awhile, ice the area or use hot pads as well, whatever helps. don't know if you can still move to your side but I sometimes get help to the side not affected, place 2 pillows between the knees, and rest the hip completely while icing it or using icy hot, antiinflammatories, etc. until the pain subsides.
hopefully you start to feel better soon. hang in there.
