PREDNISONE / PREDNISOLONE | Arthritis Information

I am curious as to if these two are the same medication??

I am on PREDNISOLONE but i see most of the subjects in this message board are of the first spelling! Is it a different spelling in U.S as it is in U.K i wonder?

I have been on this for now for two weeks - started on 10mg and Dr trying to reduce it by 2.5 mg every 5 days until down to bottom dosage possible but im not getting very far - dropped to 5mg for last 4 days and all the finger and wrist stiffness has returned and also I feel awful - dizzy, tired and breathless so Dr has told me to go back to 7.5 mg as the 5mg not agreeing with me.  I am 6 months pregnant and this is the first time I have been given any kind of medication for the RA at all.  I am wondering has anyone else also had these symptoms when trying to cut back on doasage for it??

THANKS FOR TAKING TIME TO READ MY MESSAGE!

Hi Chelybel,

It looks like it is a synthetic form of prednisone. I copied this from the med section of webmd. Hope that this helps.

Prednisolone is a man-made (synthetic) corticosteroid used to reduce swelling (inflammation) seen in various medical conditions including: allergic reactions, breathing disorders (e.g., asthma, COPD), skin conditions (e.g., psoriasis, hives), digestive/stomach problems (e.g., colitis), arthritis, adrenal gland problems, cancer, blood disorders, eye diseases, or multiple sclerosis. It is also used along with other medicines to prevent or treat organ transplant rejection.

Prednisone is a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticoid). It decreases your immune system's response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions. It is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, certain cancers, eye problems, immune system diseases, and skin diseases.

Thanks Lu for the info!
