Has anyone ever gone to mayo for a consultation on their RA. I just talked to a woman in my neighborhood who was suffering so bad a year ago. She looks and feels great after going to Mayo. I am really thinking about it....

Who knows???? It certainky couldn't hurt!!

There is a gal who went to Mayo after everything failed, she was put on Antibiotic Protocol and is doing well.  She hasn't posted for awhile but you might do a search.

GOod luck.

Hey GenaRogers! It's great to see you. Does the fact you are thinking about the Mayo Clinic mean Dr Mercola didn't work out? How are you doing?

EEGGADS.....I all ready tried AP.....

Mercola was great when it was covered by insurance....insurance stopped covering them as he gets more and more radical. Is radical the right word????
I loved the nurtritionists there but the raw thing was really freaking me out. I can certainly deal with raw fruit, veggies and I was picking up raw milk products from co-op.  The raw meat thing really turns my stomach....The crohns patients have had great success eating raw meat...at least the ones I talked to in the waiting room!!

So I am back to juicing and detoxing and trying to find a western medicine of drug cocktails that will work for me>
Hi Gena, and glad to see you posting.  What can it hurt?  If insurance covers the consultation, why not?  It might be the perfect solution.  It's all about finding the right RD, the right meds or combo of meds, diet and exercise.  Sometimes it takes a long time to find the right combo of meds and lifestyle changes that will bring on clinical remission.  I'm in clinical remission so I know the ups and downs of the search.  Please keep us posted.  Lindy  Mayo is famous for their clinics -- rheumatology being one of them. By all means, I would go if it were available to me....GenaRogers, I'm sorry that didn't wotk out for you. I hope you find something soon. And don't be such a stranger!Hi Gena.

What is your friend doing to make her so well?

I would LOVE to hear.
The woman I know who went to Mayo said they were very thorough. They looked at her diet and recommended less meat and more fish. She is taking fish oil twice a day and turmeric twice a day. She was advised to cut back on white flour and sugar as well. She was on remicade and they switched her to Orencia and Provigil. She is walking and doing the hot pool arthritis classes. After getting her RA managed she was able to back to work full time. She tool a less stressful job and doesnt commute into the city anymore. Sounds like a plan to me!!

I go to the Cleveland Clinic. Never mentioned diet to me. I go back next month.I plan to ask about the diet, fish oil, AP , everything I can think of....

Diet and exercise is a big part of staying well.  An anti-inflammation diet and water exercises work for me.  No sugar, no substitutes, lots of veg. and fruits, less red meat, more fish, little gluten and dairy, no prepared foods unless organic.  Right now I'm doing water exercises 3 times a week and golfing.  I couldn't start exercising until I went into clinical remission.  You've learned a lot on the forum and take it all to the clinic.  The diet part isn't easy but the difference it's made for me is remarkable.  Diet helps my psoriatic arthritis more than the meds.  Lindy
