Scalp problems anyone? | Arthritis Information

HI guys, just wondered if any of you have any trouble with your scalp, whenever my scalp becomes sore and irritated, I get almost like sores that take time to heal, one Dr said vasculitis, another said sebhorremic dermatitis (sp), it calms down for a littlw while and then when it flares I know my ESR is up, it is consistently higher whenever my scalp gets really sore.  For now the skin specialist gave me elocon lotion, but it really stings when you put it on.  I was also advised to use nizoral twice a week and sebmed in between.  Anyone get this trouble?  Hugs Janie.  Jane, I have the same thing and the Dermatologist diagnosed it as seborrhea.  It causes dandruff and itching and it can appear anywhere that the body has hair.  Yes Jane, even there!  LOL  Google it and learn more. I've had that!  I used a psoriasis shampoo and it was gone after a few weeks.. Occasionally I get a small area back and shampoo again.

On the Sjogrens' board there are several of us who have this issue.
Ok only scalp problems I have been having is that I get a lot of pimples on my scalp. They went away a little after I got to take Remicade again after being off for some months. I am not sure what causes me to get the "pimples". I thought for a while it was the shampoo, but I changed it to the free & clear shampoo, and I still got the "pimples". But I have not had any "pimples" on my scalp since being back on Remicade.

The pimples, I call them pimples, because they were small & juicey and they would have like white stuff come out of them and they were VERY sore. Just brushing my hair would hurt bad.

I have not told my RD about it yet, as I thought it was from the shampoo I was using, but apparently not.
Selsum Blue? Check spelling. There is a presciption that is stronger version. I only ever needed once.
Also i get hives on my head if i drink diet soda.
Come to think of it... I get the "pimples" when I have a lot of inflammation going on. I remember telling my mom one day that I thought my joint inflammation was causing me to have the "pimples" on my scalp. But then I told her that just sounded crazy. yep I get that too.  right at the base of my head  at the hairline.. and it hurts like  its bruised.

when I was a kid I had chronic sores  on my scalp that wouldnt heal.. I always had a couple big scabs going..
this all has to be AI stuff.

thinking......

I started getting those bumps when I was a kid...... right around the time that my JRA acted up.
Isn't this a classic symptom of psoriasis? Is there a certain test they use to dx that? Meme? Where are ya my friend? I know you know all about that.

This is very interesting.  My scalp in one place just hurts to the touch and its where my permanent headache is located, but no dermatology noted as I had my doctor look at it.

What worries me is my best friend here for years complained on this headache and kept cupping the left side of her head, and four years ago she had a brain anuerism (sp), entailing major brain surgery at where she had been cupping her head (I looked), and is now paralyzed on her right side.  She is still with us in her great personality and comprehends everything that is said, and does a pretty good job of communicating, but after careful questionning by me, she cannot read, write, or has any sense of time.

She was my roommate, so I was right there when she had been to her doctor multiple times for this headache for four years before the BA, with just being given pain pills, no testing, no MRI.  I had a brain MRI and nothing showed up, but its still worrisome.  This scalp pain started only a few months ago.
Oh i have a place on the top of my head. I used to call it my entena. It would get an electrical feeling in it. I thought nerve damage from all the disk problems i had in my spine. Well it has actually swollen a bit twice this past year. I can not remember what it is called but i saw a picture of someone with a swollen artery. Well i don't swell as bad as in the picture. I had an MRI of my brain a few years back. But that was just when it was a feelling not swelling yet. Next time it swells i am going to have it looked at. Do you know what kind of response you get from doctors when you try to tell them you have an entena on the top of your head?  Who knows? I don't think you can get RA on the top of your head. But it happens when i am flaring in just one spot two inches above the hair line above my right eye.I feel like a fool.  I just took a shower and washed my hair, which my hubbie asked to grow out and its the longest its ever been.  That scalp pain is from the WEIGHT of all the durn hair I have.  OMG LOLU might have eczema....or a fungus that causes those terrible lakes....mine are hereditary but i dont get scabs just lots of flakes b/c of a passed on dry scalp...try just washing your hair twice a week because washing it so much just makes it worse...thats why u have scabs...if u truly do have a fungus u can treat if over time w/ Selsun Blue....but u might have a dermatological problem so my #1 recommendation is to go see a dermatologist......hope that helps :)
