Shivering & pain... anyone? | Arthritis Information

I shiver so bad and so much, that my back will hurt REALLY bad and my back muscles tense up. So then I have to resort to muscle relaxer & 2 ultracets, before it goes away.

Only way to not shiver is to lay with the heating pad. But then... I cannot get on the internet and have the heated mattress pad, heating pad, laptop & DSL modem all plugged in at the same time.

Moral of the story...

I cannot be on the internet and be warm too.
I can be layered in clothes and still be freezing to death!

Oh... but this morning.... I piled on the clothes and socks and all for when we went to the christmas tree farm, because it was suppose to be cold and I did not want to freeze to death and my hands/fingers & feet/toes be frozen. Then... we got to walking around and I was sweating and not even cold one time! Everyone else was freezing. Me I took off my jacket and started to take off my sweatshirt I was soo hot!

This crap is just CRAZY!
Oh the other night... I got ready for bed, and my entire body of cold. I had hubby feel my hips and back and arms and legs... just to make sure it was not me imagining them being cold. And he said it felt like I just came in from the cold. And I was sitting in the livingroom in front of the heater in sweat clothes and 2 pairs of socks! It never makes any sence does it? This is an evil disease designed to mess with our heads. Probably orginated as a form of germ warfare.Oh just wanted to add. That was not an actual statement that i have any documentation on. LOL That was just me being silly.  What happens to me is if somehow I touch or am touched with something cold.. like when some joker puts a cold pop can against my skin.. my muscles all go into spasm.. its awful and it hurts like hell.

Do NOT put your nasty cold hands on my cheeks to show me how cold it is outside.. I belive you..

Although... I can go out in extreme cold and dont get the same reaction.. So I can be outside a while when the kids are playing.. or walk around downtown.. just dont touch me
Joonie,

At first I thought you were talking about shivering because of the pain.  I was like, "Oh, someone else like me."  I hate when my pain is so bad that it makes me shiver and then the shivering makes the joints hurt worse.  Then I saw it was pain FROM the shivering due to the cold.

I find when I am that cold (mostly because my husband keeps the thermostat at 69 which is just too cold for me), a hot bath is the cure.  I take a really hot bath, put my pjs on and climb in bed.  I have this really large afghan I made from thick & quick chenille yarn.  I use it on top of my quilt.  It keeps me toasty warm!

Joonie-

Can you get an extension cord with multiple outlets?  I have done that before.
I had forgotten how cold intolerant I had become until I stood outside for a half hour a couple of weeks ago. It took me nearly an hour to feel normal again.

Cold is hell on FM. Maybe that's what they mean by hell freezing over I am wondering if it is my thyroid or the RA.  Could it be the RA?  I have Raynauds and have always hated the cold but this year is awful.  It is 73 in here but I have on 2 t-shirts and a long sleeved shirt and wool socks.  And I'm still cold. It really is like you just can't warm up.  It used to be my hands but now it's all of me.  My hands aren't even that cold, I just can't shake it all.  I actually succeeded in making myself walk on the treadmill, because I was so frustrated with being that cold at 73 degrees, I wanted to warm up!

the cold has really bother me this winter and usually i am o'k with it.  if it is cold and sunny that was my favorite!!!   but this winter i cannot stand any cold.  i am wearing alot of those thermacare stick on patches.  i love them!    i wear one on my neck and one around my waist.   sometimes around my ankle the neck ones work for swollen ankles too.   i should own stock in them.   i buy several boxes a week.    the christmas parade was yesterday and i put them on before i went out in the cold.  i also sleep in them.  they help me relax my muscles and bones along with the electric blanket and heating pad.   i just get chilled to the bone.  ha ha    i have turned my heat up.   i use to try to stay cold and save money.  now it just hurts too bad.   the wood burning stove helps a whole lot, but it is some work and dirt involved but it is worth it.  i also wear long underwear in the house under my jogging suit.  ha ha

get a microwave-able heating pad... doesn't last forever..but it works great!!Hard to say? When I first got this I was afraid I might freeze to death because i had no idea what temperature it was ever. Sometimes to hot some times to cold. Even in the same hour sometimes. I have had my feet get cold and stay cold for days. Even with several socks and blankets wrapped around them.
