I got a bill for a bill I had already paid. Just called and got it corrected. Don't like those.I'm just getting some bills for my son's July ER visit....makes me scratch my head about whether they are already paid or valid...I had a receipt so was POSITIVE it was paid. You might check for them.It's really scary to me how people like us, who have brain fog and pain, have to track down every last thing with these medical bills. I keep track of mine in a big spreadsheet, showing the date, provider, amount, insurance reimbursement, etc. I can't believe how many times I've been double-billed, billed in error, not received the right amount from insurance, not received any reimbursement from insurance, etc. For anyone who has trouble keeping track of this stuff themselves, please enlist a family member, friend, or even a part time helper, because you can lose a lot of money if you're not careful.We use a large durable medical equipment company here in the U.S. and they were fined very heavily several years ago because of their billing practices. We still have problems with their billing department. We got a bill from them for the equipment prior to leaving the U.S. we paid our portion before we left. We just had our mail forwarded to us in Mexico and they've sent us a check for .00 overpayment - huh? We got a bill, our ins. pd, we pd our portion, now we get a check for overpayment and if I call them I get an incredible runaround, so I'm just going to deposit the check and keep quiet. Too much stress to deal with them. Jan, I understand your frustration all to well. Lindymy youngest daughter works for a med billing co...... It's "known" in the industry that hospitals and physicians who bill out of hospitals are horrific and often dupe charges....THanks all for the support. These errors are frustrating!!!!!I think this was just an innocent mistake. The gal sounded frazzled when I called with the payment and she did apologize. The issue of deliberate scams is something else. To me, these are criminal and hopefully can be stopped. Hopefully.
