Arthritis Information -Device to Aid the Arthritic

Share

Hello,

I am in my final year at Loughborough University studying industrial design and technology. I am desiging and prototyping a device which would stir a sauce/broth etc in a saucepan mechanically either by battery or mains power.

I am trying to do some user research and would be intrested in any ideas you have and whether you think this is a valid product which could aid people with arthritis.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give-

Hello Russell,

Don't they already make a simular product?

Hi

My product would be more lightweight so it would will be easier to carry to put on. Its still in the early stages of design but it may possibly come with a saucepan specially designed to fix in place to stop rotation with some features making it easier for stroke victims and arthritis suffers.

It would be mains powered so there would be no need to have to replace batteries which can be awkward for stroke victims with only dexterity in one arm. Also been mains powered will mean that it can be more powerful when stirring thick and sticky foods such as jams. It also means that when you want to leave something cooking for hours at a time such as soups there is no need to worry about batteries running out or the cost of replacing them.

Also the product will be more aesthetically pleasing but it will have additional features such as an inbuilt timer and thermometer as research shows that people over 50 are more likely to have problems sensing temperature which according to ROSPA causes numberous injuries each year; For those who dont it will be useful when reaching specific temperatures when cooking.

Any suggestions on how current products could be improved would be greatly appreciated so they can be incorporated into the design.

Thank you

Russell Bond
