My nephew was diagnosed with Factor V Lieden awhile ago, blood clotting disorder.  It is supposed to be inherited but no one on either side of his family has had it.  Has anyone had any experience with this.  He is on coumadin.I got some information from a neighbor.  Glad of that!so..what is it, Jan?

I've never heard of it..

I've never heard of this either until now.  The above is a link to the national library of medicine which has some information on it.  It's not a lot but it might help a little.

Don't both of his parents have to be carriers? I have never heard of that either.  I hope he will be okay, Jan.

some friends of mine recently found out their little girl has Cystic Fibrosis.  Nobody in the family has that either that they have ever known of.  I'm not sure if just one or both parents have to be a carrier for that.....sad Babs-

It is a blood clotting disorder.  He forms clots not needed.  He was hospitalized for clots in his lung, put on coumadin and is now O.K.

It is supposed to be inherited but as I said no one on either side of the family has it.  His uncle, an M.D. says sometimes genes are unstable and something can turn up.  If both parents have it you will get it.  If one parent has it you have a 50% chance.  BOTH his children also have it, daughter and son.

We're just praying he will continue to be O.K.
