I have been on Enbrel for close to 2 years now.  It was amazing ...no pain!

However, about a month and a half ago I noticed a small "hive" but then it went away.  The next week, a day after I took my shot, I got another hive at the injection site.  I iced it and after a while it went away but was back the next night and the night after that.  Each week this happens.  And the hives started occurring more frequently and were more itchy and painful.  They always go away with ice.

I switched to the 25 mil dosage that does not have the preservative and went one week without a reaction but it came back the next week.

Has anyone ever heard of developing this type of a reaction after a significant time on Enbrel without reacting? My doc doesn't have any information on this and am not reassured by their assurance that the reaction will not get progressively worse.

Wow 2 years with no pain.  I had about 9 months.  but stayed on it.  Yes, developed hives but on my face often. then moved to rash on my ankles and eczema type dry patches around my ankles.  swollen mouth and lips. I looked like homer simpson.  I told the urgent car doc my lips normally match each other.
i was taken off enbrel and restarted a year later only to have the same symptoms return and no relief from pain.
I get a hive or two (or more) in previous injection sites fairly often (I have been on Enbrel 2-1/2 years). They have lessened to some degree over time. I tried ice, oral and topical antihistamines but nothing significantly worked. The most effective was to NOT SCRATCH them.

I think if you start getting hives on your face, swollen mouth and lips you should be concerned about a serious allergic reaction.
