My Rheumy Visit | Arthritis Information

Saw him yesterday and he is pleased. I am not so pleased with him as it is hard to get answers from him without the ' dontcha worry your head about it girlie' smile so Im going to change to a new Rheumy ( a woman) at the Hospital. Having my insurance pay for my first has been fine because I could organise appointments to suit but in the public system its another story entirely. But apparently this lady is a gem and really 'with it' RA wise.

Shouldn't they ALL be one has to wonder ?!

I am  to reduce the pred to 2.5 mgs per day from 5mgs. This is the part I worry about and Im leaving it until after Christmas....Im such a scaredy cat!!

Have had nasty achey  hands, knees and shoulders this last week, I so dont want to be back in that place I was at in April. No sirree!! I am so enamoured of Prednisone. Dammit!

In the great big scheme of things, Im one miniscule minnow compared to where many of you are and I know Im one lucky chickadee to be where I am, not even got to the MTX part yet.

Hi Lyn...I dont take pred so cant help there, but glad you are chganging your Rheumy, I hate it when doctors are so condescending. good luck to you!  and changing doc's is your option...... I hope the new lady works out better.Lyn- I have been tapering from 40 mgs of pred since February. I am down to 2. Once I hit 10 I was only allowed to drop 1 mg every 2 to 4 weeks depending on how I felt. I stayed at 3 for a long long time. I dropped to 2 but I have not felt good since I was on 15. I don't want to go back up but my dr. said he'd be comfortable even if I took 5.

Hope you have more success with your new dr.
Yes, good luck with the new female doctor. My rheumy is a woman. I love her. Good Luck!My Rheumy is also a woman and a true gem. I just love her to pieces. If I have a question about something, she always returns my calls, usually at the end of the day so we can talk without being rushed.

I can't take pred. so I have no advice for you, but having a doctor talk to you like you're a child is unacceptable.

I hope you really like your new woman doc and she is able to help you more than the one you have now.

This is my last day posting for a while, as I have surgery at 7:15 tomorrow morning. I'm told it will be a 7 hr. surgery, then I'll be in the hospital for at least a week.

Know I'll be thinking of you, Sweetie, and hoping everything goes great with the new doc.

Happy Holidays!
Much love, Nini
cutting down on your pred is something you can try. There are no guarentees that it is the right time to do so. I believe with me they said if you crash let me know. If you are swelling or have any other problems call the doc and let them know. Good luck with this.I was on 45mg. and it took a year to taper 1mg. at a time and sometimes only .50 mg.  I was on 40-45 mg. daily for over 4 years.  It's much easier on your body to taper at a smaller dose and slower.

You have to be able to communicate with your RD and I don't blame you for changing RDs if you're not hapy.  Lindy
Thanks everyone for your input. xxx I have had a letter today from the aforementioned Rheumy (well a COPY of the letter he sends my primary Doc) and due to its content I am starting a new thread for some more comments if y'all dont mind. (I love ya Jan...a gal from Atlanta I have been friends with for a few years taught me that wee word  Y'all. !!! lolol)

I love it. Y'all. Yep, lololol
