Wrist Surgery | Arthritis Information

I took my mom to an orthopedic surgeon yesterday.  I just loved him.  He sat close to her and just “hung” on every word she said.  He really listened!  Then he joked with her and got her to laugh and lighten her mood.  He was awesome.

He said she had severe osteoarthritis in her wrist and hand.  He said she had so much that needed done surgically, that he really didn’t want to do it all at once because he felt it would be too much for her.

One of the things he IS going to do is to cut the end of the ulnar bone off where it meets the wrist.  He said he was then going to take tendon and wrap it around the end of the  bone to hold it in place.

Does anyone know if there is a specific name for this procedure?  I’ve Googled, but can’t seem to find it.

its called  darrach procedureThank you Buckeye!Best of luck to your mom! Yikes that sounds painful!

the surgery is a lot less painful than the catching of thw wrist.  I was in a cast for a week and then was allowed to move it as needed

Tomorrow will be a week since my mom's surgery and she's still in a lot of pain.  Shouldn't she be feeling better by now?  I'm worried because after I brought her home from the surgery, I heard a loud pop.  She said it was her wrist.  Now I'm worried that maybe something bad happened.Kweenb, I am so sorry about your mom, it does seem she should be feeling relief by now, doesn't it?  When does she go back to the doctor?  The loud pop thing sounds bad to me, maybe something to do with the tendon placement?  I am sorry for your mom, and you, and I hope all is well soon for you both. oooh- ouch! Hope she feels better soon- keep us posted! Thanks guys.  Her next appointment is next Monday.  Is she keeping the hand elevated?  It is really easy for the hand to swell when if is left down..esp in the cast.

i would give her surgeon a call about the pop..so soon after surgery i would be concerned about the tendon

Thanks guys.  I think I will give her surgeon a call in the morning.Hi Kweenb, I only just read your post too, I sincerely hope your Mum is ok and that the pop was nothing sinister.  God Bless, Janie. Kweenb, Calling the surgeon sounds like good advice. I hope it turns out all ok for your mother.
