When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as  Europe .
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.   Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

Very Interesting Quote:

In light of the present financial crisis, it's  interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'

I'll keep my freedom, my religion, my guns, and my money.....You can keep THE CHANGE.

Good post.  Thanks.

T. Jefferson was right on target....a lot of insight.

Cycle of Democracy

Alexander Tyler

(in his 1770 book, Cycle of Democracy)

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government.  It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.  From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world’s great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence.”

·        From bondage to spiritual faith

·        From spiritual faith to great courage

·        From courage to liberty

·        From liberty to abundance

·        From abundance to selfishness

·        From selfishness to complacency

·        From complacency to apathy

·        From apathy to dependency

·        From dependency back again into bondage

great post about thomas jefferson.   it is a WOW.   w.w.

Jefferson and Madison proposed an 11th Amendment to the Constitution that would "ban monopolies in commerce," making it illegal for corporations to own other corporations, banning them from giving money to politicians or trying to influence elections in any way, restricting corporations to a single business purpose, limiting the lifetime of a corporation to something roughly similar to that of productive humans (20 to 40 years back then), and requiring that the first purpose for which all corporations were created be "to serve the public good."

I'd have to look it up, but I think  the proposal was most excellent but was turned down because there was similiar law already  in most states.
Again, I think it was brought up by a later president and made law...I really should look this up...I am guessing...To late for research...maybe tomorrow..Interesting though.
The insight from long ago rings true today.

I'll keep my freedom, my religion, my guns, and my money.....You can keep THE CHANGE.

Is this in reference to President-Elect Obama's campaign slogan?
Interesting....
I'm also interested in your further research on that, IO..
my husband may know.. I'll have to pick his brain when he wakes up.............
Abraham Lincon brought it up at the close of the civil war, He was concerened, then the courts screwed it up and later another president caught the mess up and had it corrected..This from a man the Dems long claim as one of their own. If that’s the case then they have strayed a long way from him.

Thought this observation was interesting

Yes, however I support our President Elect. I believe in the right to bare arms.I voted Republican. I do not embrace all the policies of either parties. I do not recall agreeing with anyone president 100%....

I live in Gun country...many people in my area rely on hunting to eat...I however do not own a gun, but my neighbors and friends and sister ( who hunts with her husband and has a small arsenal) all have guns. The only person I know who "carries" a gun on him 90% of the time is my son in law...He is a city police officer and it is in his contract to carry it at all times when he is in City limits, on the clock and off the clock.
