Nini, we are worried about you.  Wishing you all kinda of hugs!
Hello, my friends! I was looking at some of the posts since I've been gone and was very touched to see  this.

I didn't make it home for Christmas Eve. I just got home on Jn 13. My surgery was much more involved than anticipated. The surgery itself lasted 11 1/2 hrs.! But I now have a shiny new spine!
The surgery was on Dec. 17. I was in intensive care for 5 days, then in hospital until Jan 2. Then I went to acute rehab. for another 10 days. I've had a lot of pain, but it's starting to get a bit better. At least my pain meds are starting to work.
I'm now up and walking with a walker and a back brace. I'll have the brace for 3-6 months. I even have to shower in it. But my walk-in tub really helps.
The rehab center said I did very well in in-patient rehab. I'm now having home physical therapy, then I go back to the center  for out-patient re-hab.
That's why I've been off the board for so long.
When I can manage a little better I'll try to catch up on the posts. This is my first time on the computer and sitting is starting to hurt.
I'll post again soon. Thank you all so much for your concern, it means so much to me!

Hope you are all doing well.
Much love, Nini

oh my goodness what you've been through!!  I hope recovery comes quickly.....  Thank you all for your kindness and good wishes! I know the prayers have helped. I hope all of you are feeling good and things are going well for you.
I'm feeling a bit better every day. I have a small blood clot in my r. leg and the home therapist doesn't want to do much til she is convinced it won't hurt me. I have an appt. with my surgeon on Wed, so I'll ask him what he thinks about the blood clot and if it needs any more treatment.
Other than that, I am doing well.

Best wishes to you all!
Much love, Nini
Nini, how do you know that it's a blood clot?  If it were diagnosed by your primary care doctor did they put you on any medication for it?  If you haven't seen a doctor you need to see your primary care doctor PRONTO if you have symptoms of a clot in your leg.  Let us know how you do.  LindyI agree with Lin, phone your doctor/surgeon right away and inform them, they may not want you to wait until your appt on Wednesday.  It's always a good idea to check in with your doctor, my ortho docs always told me to call if I had a question or problem.  So please give them a call.  Take care.

Yaaah Nini, great to have you back and I agree with the others....that sure was a long operation!   If it has achieved all you expected then obviously was worth the long haul. Just take care in the meantime and I also echo the same sentiments re the blood clot. Dangerous wee things and a quick visit to the Doc sure is the way to go.

{{{hugs}}} to ya and stay well and warm.

Lyn  xxxxx Thanks for your concern re: the blood clot. When I went into acute re-hab, they did an ultra sound on my legs, checking for blood clots. They said there was a small one in my r. calf and started me on Lovenox injections twice a day. They repeated the ultra sound the morning I came home and said it was unchanged, but not to worry about it and to check with my PCP about it. That didn't sound right to me at all!
I saw one of the docs at my PCP's office this morning about it. He said in the lower leg, they don't usually treat it, unless there is swelling, etc. I have no pain, swelling or other symptoms, so he said I can do the walking exercises and the exercises in bed. Just no massage of my legs or anything like that.
I will make sure that if I develop symptoms in my upper leg or pain in my chest, I'll get to the hospital. But other than that, I'm just going to try to concentrate on working hard to get stronger and able to walk without a walker eventually. I still plan on going to Maui in Aug. and dancing on the beach with my Sweetie! We may even repeat out wedding vows.
I truly appreciate your concern.
My love to you all!
Nini
Nini,

Glad to hear you went in to see the doc today, and that you will be watchful for any changes.

Keep at your rehab, with each day you will get stronger and soon will no longer need that walker, and before you know it August will be here -- Aloha Maui!!!

Where will you be staying?  I've stayed in the Napili area, at I think Napili Point Resort -- along a cove, with a beautiful view, near Kapalua beach I think -- it's been awhile for me.  Anywhere on Maui though is beautiful, what a wonderful trip to look forward to, especially after all you've been through.

Take care.

Hi Nini.....I haven't been around much lately, but I am very happy to see that your doing well.  I'll remember to pray that your recovery continue on without complications and that you'll be up tap dancing before you know it.  :)Nini - its good to see you posting and you are well.  Hawaii sounds like a great way to spend your recovery time, and a renewal of vows is always fun (well, when in Las Vegas, why not?) LOL  Take care and glad everything went so well.  Be careful going through metal detectors :)  Hi Nini,

I was wondering whatever happened when you had the MRI for the overlapping/double vision/focus problem you had.  Remember I was having a similar problem, well, I developed scleritis, an eye inflammation, so that delayed me seeing a specialist for the double vision.  Finally saw the specialist today, and she said its "fourth nerve palsy" and is having me do an MRI and a MRA to help determine what's affecting the nerve, which affects the eye muscle, which affects ability to focus.  There's several possible causes, one being RA.  So, thought I'd check in with you and find out what your docs told you.

Well, hope the rehab is coming along, you won't be needing that walker after a while.  Visualize walking on the warm sands of Maui!
Take care.
