Feet trouble. | Arthritis Information

HI guys, my feet usually give me bone trouble due to unhealed osteoporotic fractures, but for about 2 weeks, if I sit down or lie down, when I get up the tenderness of my feet is excruciating, its like torture, its getting so bad I can hardly walk  especially in the mornings.  I haven't had this trouble since the beginning of my RA.  I must admit I am a lot worse this year all over with pain almost everywhere, my GP believes my muscles are affected also as they are always cramping and intensely sore.  I eat bananas for extra potassium.  I usually get relief at about 3pm, so I go back to bed after brekky and a.m tablets to allow them to work, then I just do very light household duties if possible with rests every 15 mins.   Just wondered if anyone else has this trouble, the bones are sore too, but any weight on them and awful pain ensues.  GP has told me to rest and increase pred over Christmas, until we can sort out helicobactor-pylori problem after Christmas, then begin Rituxan, I hope!  Hugs Janie.  My hair is a mess, doesn't want to behave, my skin is affected, I can't exercise without awful pain and after effects, everything I do exhausts me and I feel like my whole body has been consumed and I am unable to control anything.  2009 there are new rules for this disease, I am the boss and I will decide what I am going to do on a daily basis, so there.

Wanted to respond to the feet problem. I don't know what it could be, but mine was plantar fascia. Very painful. A problem in RA. With that said, mine has improved 1000%.

Don't know janie but sure hope you get relief soon!Hey Janie, I have bad feet too, though mine are not osteo fractures.  Do you have a pair of Crocs?  I find they make great house shoes because they have such a nice cushion, easy to slip off and on and help me when I stand to cook.  You can order them on Shoebuy.com or Zappos and they have free shipping both ways.  I have found no topicals that give me relief and you are right... mornings are the pits.  Feel better soon.

I have fleece lined crocs that I just love for the house. Sorry your feet are bothering you so, Janie.Janiefx,
Sorry I missed the part about the fractures....I thought you were wondering what could be causing your feet problems. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Sounds way painful. I hope you get some kind of relief soon.

janie i am sorry you are hurting.   my feet are my worse area.  what bones i have left fracture all the time.   crocs are great!  they are better than being barefoot.   i keep mine right by my bed.   if i am exercising or trying to walk outside i wear MBT trainers they really give me a cushion and a bounce in my walk.   but you may need a orthro boot wonder if you could get some they add extra support.   my orthro foot doctor told me to wear mine whenever i need it and he said sometimes wear them so people will understand how bad you hurt because when they see something visible people are actually nicer to you.   oh well i understand even the sheets can hurt.  wishing you well.   wonderwomanThankyou so much guys, the fractures I can handle believe it or not, but whatever the other problem is, I don't know, (you were right Lisa), it wasn't the fractures I was referring to.  Yes guys, I wear crocs and they are the best, but unfortunately even they don't mask this pain.  I am sure as with all the other aches and pains of this disease that it will go away eventually and almost definitely return another day!  Hugs Janie. Janie,

Sorry you feet are so painful.  It sounds like ra in your feet.  There are so many joints in the feet.  Is it the tops of your feet?  My ankles and feet are very painful when I try to walk after even short periods of inactivity.  Once I get going they feel better but if I stop to sit or lay or after a short ride in the car they are hurting again.
Thanks Pam, it is in the tops but not always, it is so painful underneath and the bone on the side of the foot about halfway between the toes and heel, that throbs with really sharp pain while resting also?????  I have to laugh, my GP said yesterday that I must be the only pt who goes to the Dr complaining of pain and she checks my BP and chest as she can't give me any other pain relief just understanding and back up advice!  She is so funny and very intelligent, I am so lucky to have her, she is a true friend also.  Merry Christmas and thanks from Janie. Ohhhhhhhhhh this is how my RA began.  I have no fat pads left in my feet so it is bare bone hitting.  I have to have shoes on--it is impossible for me to walk on a hard surface without a shoe.  I have to  have a good arch support and a cushion in my shoes and I do pretty good.  I was treated for plantar facitis for about 2 years and saw several foot doctors-who were all wrong--it was not plantar facitis--it was the RA.  I have had 3 pairs of custom orthotics and none of them work.  What a waste of money!  My most successful orthotic is a Birkenstock arch support that I put in whatever shoes I am wearing.  They work well for me in a Clark clog and I put in the orthotic and a soft footbed and it is the best.  I hold the orthotic in with velcro circle on the foot part of the shoe and the other side on the orthotic.  I like the Birkenstock sandles in the summer--the soft feetbed is fabulous.  In fact my RA dr. made fun of my Birkenstocks and then after I had been going there for awhile, HE WAS WEARING BIRKENSTOCKS!  You will have to experiment to see what works for you and it takes time to feel better.  I feel your pain--literally!Yeah I am being told that my foot pain is plantar faciitis but related to RA but personally I think it's just RA.  Its not all across the tendons but just near the heel.  Already on max anti-inflammatories and I am messing up my ankle from walking on the outside of my foot.  Crocs hurt my feet as do running shoes.  Too much arch just hurts.  I have a pair of slippers that I wear all around the house and bass loafers to work, had to give up heels.
When I was in college and running a lot, I had pain on the top of my feet that was never officially dx but was treated with Vioxx, and I think that was RA.  Also guys, I have plantar fasciitis, and a right heel spur and hammer toe right big toe.  All combined + PAIN - Oh well, at least they are not smelly!Janie.   I have heel spurs, tarsal tunnel symdrome high arches, and ra shows up all over my feet and toes. I know how you feel. Everytime I sit down and get up, it is so painful for a while but then after I am "on my feet" for a little while they feel better. If I am on my feet too much they hurt. Just can't win! I have some soft slippers I wear. They help somewhat. I hope you get those feet feeling better.
take care
Catnip2.. I am like you... my worst flare from hell started in the feet w/ the Plantar Fascitis... worst pain...
I'm sorry you're having foot troubles.....  I have alot of pain on the top outside of my feet now... I'm afraid to find out what it is... like a bone moved or worse?  I have enough distruction in my toes that Im sure there is more I cannot see.....

I hope you feel better very soon.
I have arthritis in my feet. From time to time all my feet parts act up. My big toe on the left foot is often drawn forward from muscle spasms. There is narrowing of the joint space in my left foot. Foot dotor said it's not to bad yet. Well thats easy to say when it's not your foot. Really was the worst when swelling. But honestly damage was done before there was alot of noticable swelling. The bone on the side of my right foot aches often. And i hate when the muscles in the bottom of my feet get super tight. I guess this is RA stiffness? Or fibro. It all comes and goes. Except for the big toe on the left foot is pretty constant. There is more swelling associated with the big toe as well as more muscle spasms. I have seen pictures of what RA can do to the feet. When i get the muscle spasms , which is often, I think that has alot to do with the deformaty process. The swelling is part of it. But the muscles being drawn certain ways i think has alot to do with damage process. Just my opinion from living in this body. What happen to the fat pads? Does it sorta feel gravely?...I hate feet problems. Going to a foot doc sounds like solid advice.
