This is my first post. I am so excited to find others that have experience, and just personal stories of these conditions. I am a mom with a 13 year old son that ped rheum has not yet made a diagnosis. He has pos ana, ssa, sed rate 53, rf neg, etc... Severe feet pain, fingers, wrists, knee, and hip. He's been on naproxen for 2 months. Getting ready to start plaquenil. Has had symptoms for about two years, but not this severe. I kept telling him it was growing pains.Any feedback of any kind will make my day. Glad to have found this forum!

I was diagnosed at 18, everything started at 17.  You can tell your son, if he's scared, that they've got some great medications and catching it early can make a big difference.  I'm on plaquenil and mtx, and I (thankfully) live a pretty normal life.  I have some persistent neck trouble but nearly all of the initial problems with my hands, feet and knees are under control.

That's a tough burden for a 13 year old boy to take on though.  Is he into sports really heavily?

Hiya,

One of our members here has started a JRA forum too: http://
www.gossiping.net/phpBB2/index.php?mforum=kaytyray <-- you'll have
to copy and paste, html doesn't seem to work for me on this board!

I'm 23, my rheumy suspects that I've had RA since I was a young'n that
just never got diagnosed (had lots of problems with my knees and feet
from about age 7). Let your son know that RA is liveable, it's just a case of
finding your particular combo of meds/treatment. I responded very well
to Plaquenil in terms of reduction of swelling, pain and disease activity. It
didn't agree with my eyes though, and I had to switch.

*hugs*
