So glad Xmas is over ...
Xmas is never a happy time of year for me.
Seems that we remember the loved ones who are no longer with
us and we are always reminded of people less fortunate than ourselves, both of
which leave me feeling very sad.
Also, I think the cooking of the Xmas meal and the general stress of
"gift giving" is just too much.   There seems to be competition where present giving
is concerned which just irks me.  "How little can I give, and how much can I get"...
type of thing.
Come the 26th December, I just breathe a sigh of relief.
Anyone else feel like this?

not me.  I love Christmas, even though our oldest daughter was killed 2 days before Christmas, 1999.  Its a time for remembering the joy, and having a blast with the wee ones I'm raising now.

I have a large family and have lost MANY members, including both parents, 2 nephews and a brother, as well as our older daughter AND my first daughter to suicide.

I'm still happy to enjoy Christmas.  I found myself crawling around on the dining room floor with the little guy setting up hot wheel tracks and  playing with Littlest Pet Shop buildings with my little girl. Yeah my knees ached and I cried a little when I looked at Lizzie's ornament on the tree... but then I heard the sound of 15 people eating and laughing all through the house on Christmas day and reallized that my motto "Life is GOOD!!" is absolutely true..

Oh and I got  a package of pens, a package of safety pins, 3 dishtowels and a Kmart necklace and I am thrilled..

It can be very stressful.  I try and keep the stress level down.

Some people love it and are sad when it is over.

Some people don't like it and are glad when it is over.

I guess it depends.
Christmas is a time of joy for us and has always been that way, no matter what else was going on in our life.  We've always looked forward to the holidays.  Gift giving is what you make it.  It can be simple or lavish.  We just enjoy the holidays and do good.  LindyLove the HolidaysGlad it's over. Many thanks for your replies.

Wishing you all a happy 2009.

Hugs,

Anna

I forgot to add, even though I find joy in the holidays - I'm glad they're over.  Too much of a good thing.  I'm tired, too many sweets, and ready to go back on my anti-inflammation diet.  Lindy

I love the Holiday's too. ALl the pretty decorations. I love to wrap gifts. Their as much as decorations to me too. The only real thing I hate about it being over is taking it all down and packing it away for another year. I'm a little sad when it's all over but I also look forwards to the New Year. No telling all the things that are bound to happen in the New Year. Here's to hoping it's all good things for us all.

Happy New Year to all my AI family.
I think that the spirit of Xmas starts too early.  The stores had xmas trees up right after Halloween along with Xmas music.  We became tired of it before Thanksgiving.  However, now that we are older and wiser we are glad that it's over and I feel that the economy played a big part in that.
Happy New Year to everyone.  It's going to be interesting.
You know I re-read your post. I have felt relief at times that it "was finally" over. I do agree that the commercial end of Christmas starts to early. But I always try to remeber the reason for the season.

I agree the New Year will be interesting to say the least.

Best Wishes,
lisa
i am glad the christmas holidays are over.   i never got in the spirit this year so that made it sad.   we have no little ones and of course they make christmas!    but all in all it turned out better than i expected and my twenty-something year old kids loved their money gifts and all was good.  no one was sad about not having alot of presents to open and it all worked out.   this made me happy!    and they were happy!   so all was good....[QUOTE=anna_uk]So glad Xmas is over ...

Maybe you wouldn't have had such a sh*tty CHRISTmas if you hadn't taken Christ out of it.
......the above post has been posted by a total ass. who has a very low self esteem and lacks class a first grader would be ashamed of. I could careless if you post til the cows come home. it's a free country you troll.Anna...sorry you found xmas so stressful. I love this time of the year but am in agreement, it starts too early and its what makes it so drawn out. We help out at homeless and elderly shelters but this year due to this chronic norovirus we didnt so that was sad. My father passed away this time of the year in 1999 so we make a point of celebrating xmas a bit more for him as he was like a child with the holidays and my kids joined in the fun with him when they were young...In a way im glad its over this year though as i have already taken the decorations down and packed away as we are having a wall in the kitchen knocked down and the lounge extended....
I wish all of you a very happy New Year. x
I have also read that the commercialization starts SO early, it makes it a very long time.

Anyway, peace and serenity to all.

THe gardening catalogs sound good!!!
When we get back to the states I have all of the gardening catalogs waiting for me!!!!!  It's one of my favorite times.  Make a pot of tea, hopefully sit out in the sun and look at the  pages of the beautiful flowers and plants.  Lindy

Christmas can seem anti-climactic....  we work for weeks .. some for months.... to get everything.. to pull it together... to buy all the right things only to have it all over in one day.  I hate  the commercialism that begins before Halloween.........

I love the lights... the music.. the family GTG's... and the baking......

I like what comes after the baking
