Gall Bladder attack with Remicade | Arthritis Information

I have only taken two infusions and have experienced 5 gall bladder attacks in the last few weeks.  I mentioned it to my RA Dr and she thought nothing of it.  I researched it myself and it is listed as a serious side effect of Remicade.  Gonna call my family Doc first thing Monday, hopefully she wont blow it off too.  Has anyone else had this problem?I had my gallbladder out while on Remicade.  Nobody mentioned a connection.  Let me know what the dr. says...Where is gall bladder disease listed as a serious side effect?  Hepititis is a serious side effect but I've never seen Gall bladder disease listed

Iv'e never taken Remicade, but I did have my Gall Bladder removed.

It was diseased...gross..no stones...just infected...made me very ill at the time. See a doctor. You deserve a work up.

I've never seen gall bladder disease as a side effect in any of the literature that I've read.  Make sure your primary care doctor sees you as soon as possible for a workup.  Have you been diagnosed with gallbladder disease?  Lindy  I've never taken Remicade but experience them as well. I was wondering if maybe it was connected to the RA? I've been having attacks myself (feeling the pains in the right side right now as a matter of fact.) I actually went to the ER in Aug cause I thought I was dying! They said it was probably my gall bladder... love that "probably." The iv drugs were a Godsend though - helped with the flare pain!
It's uncomfortable as hell and I hope it stops quickly for ya. Let us know what your doc says!
Don't know about the connection but I hear the current gallbladder surgery is a piece of cake....maybe just do it and be done with the problem. My mom had hers out in her late 70's and says she barely remembers it even had been done. What kind of symptoms do you have when you have a gallbladder attack?

For me, I get a sharp burning-like pain on the right side, just below my ribs and then pain in my back. It's more of a nuisance than anything right now. If it gets worse though or anything like it was in Aug where I just wanted to double over, I'll definitely make an appointment.

My friend in TX actually had hers taken out in emergency surgery just before Christmas. There were gallstones and it was nasty infected. She said she felt like a new woman after it was removed! (And that crazy lady went in on Sat morning and was discharged Sun!!) She was off work for about 2 weeks though.

Mine usually happens in the middle of the night.  Starts across the middle/right of my abdomen then goes around my back.  Thought I was having a heart attack at first.  Nothing helps, just have to walk around and wait it out.  Been watching my food.
After it dawned on me what it could be I googled "Remicade gall bladder attack"  and found all kinds of links relating them.  I have learned to research myself since the Dr's are usually clueless.  I think this board probably has more info than the manuals on their desks, because its based on real life experience not lab experiments.
Will keep you guys updated.  Thanks for the well wishes
When I had an attack, I couldn't stop throwing up.  Went to the ER deyhydrated and they pushed on the side with the gallbladder and I about jumped off the bed.  It was the sickest I have ever been.  Needless to say, it was taken out.  Easy surgery-haven't missed it since!!

you get hits when you google remicade gall bladder disease but really evaluate what you are reading.  There is no connection in any of those articles between the med use causing the gall bladder issues  Most of the hits involved crohns patients where gall bladder issues are common already.  Also keep in mind that gall bladder problems are fairly common in women.

I also gooled and found many hits, but like Buckeye said none are related to the med and gall bladder disease.  Went through the first 3 pages of hits, read each site and most were from attorneys fishing for clients and crohns disease related.  LindyI can't take Remicade because it caused liver problems, a type of auto-immune hepatitis, but I had my gall bladder out before that.
My gall bladder caused pain across my upper abdomen radiating around to the right back and those pains were only relieved by vomiting.  I suffered for a long time because I always felt fine when I saw the doctor.  Finally went to the ER and they did an ultra sound and had me in surgery within a few hours as an emergency case.  Surgery was really easy and I can home the next day.  My neighbor had her GB removed last Wednesday morning and was home late that same afternoon.

Ditto for me....pain and throwing up...horrible...I had trouble recovering from the surgery, but I had a few other things going on at the time that hindered a quicker recovery. It extended my hospital stay, I couldn't wait to get out, finally when I new I was going to be released the next day I called my husband at 11:45 pm and

Well, didnt expect this kind of update.  Went to hospital Sat with severe pain.  Had Acute Chole????  Inflamed gall bladder with stones.  Couldnt remove it by lap procedure, it was to inflamed, had to cut me from one side to the other.  Just my luck.  Just came home. Surgeon and RA Dr both say it wasnt the Remicade but it will be a while before I can get my next infusion.  With all the pain meds, Arthritis has been fineGlad it's over and you are home! Hope you feel better soon. I had the side to side GB surgery 23 years ago and when I woke up in recovery it was the worst pain I had ever been in. I think by the time I went home I was already feeling a lot better. [QUOTE=ncpalinda]
