A friend of mine, who also has RA, was recently diagnosed with cellulitis, which I understand is again an inflammation of connective tissue. Her one leg is red, swollen and painful. Anyone ever experience this? I'd like to send her words of encouragement. Thanks, RanaYou are an awesome friend for researching cellulitis for your friend.  Unfornately I have never heard of it...but I wanted to give YOU some words of encouragement.  It means A LOT to me when I know that friends TRULY care about me when it comes to my RA....so...kuddos to you!!!

I haven't had it, but my brother did. He was treated with very strong antibiotics (at least that is what they gave my brother for it). It is curable, but will probably take a while. Tell her to hang in there and be patient. Please tell her to keep in contact with her dr about how it is healing. It can be very, very dangerous if not taken care of.  My brother had to be put in the hospital for it, but he did have another very serious problem. I hope that your friend heals fast and the pain gets better.

Thanks, Lu. My friend is in the hospital, and I just found out that when she comes home, she will need an IV of antibiotics for awhile, so I guess doctors are on top of her treatment. I appreciate your response and  now I will be able to tell her that I heard of someone else who had it and they eventually got over it. Thanks, Rana

Rana,

I hope that she is OK. It is very painful. Please let us know how she is.

Rana,

I have had cellulitis in my neck before. One side of my neck along the jawline was red, swollen and painful. The treatment I had was antibiotics until they were sure it was gone. It went away slowly. The key I think is finding the right antibiotic that works for the individual. Good luck to your friend. Let us know how she does with her treatment.

Lu, Dyna and others,

My friend, the teacher, has returned to work this week and is better. Her leg is no longer painful/swollen, but still has a big red rash. She is still on antibiotics, and of course, had to get off her methotrexate for now. The best news - she retires at the end of this school year - I'm jealous! I still have a number of years to go!

Thanks for your inquired concern.   Rana
