OT-SINUS PROCEDURE | Arthritis Information

Well they put me to sleep today. They washed out my sinuses with cortisone and antibiotics. Said it takes two weeks to work. Well at least it is something i have never tried before. Anyway doc says it can not hurt you. He said never let anyone cut on your sinuses because removed tissue can not be replaced.

So i came to and had a bit of a bloody nose. No real pain. Well at least no more pain than i had before. Except for the IV and a sore throat from the breathing tube it was a piece of cake.
He sent me home with a new bottle of Ceclor. The neice and nephews and me have been battling strepticoco pnuemonia, check spelling. Well they are treating all of us at the same time. So we can quit passing it back and forth. We had been taking turns being the queen and kings of missery. I hate it when the little ones are sick. It showed up on my nephews throat culture. Of course no one checked it for two weeks until everyone was sick. An er doc said my neice had a cold. We had them look up my nephews culture on the computer and there it was.
I will try to let you know how this works for me.
Other than that i have been cutting back on the prednisone. Been taking 2.5 for about three weeks now. So i am obviously doing better swelling wise. Really i am trying to invision myself a bit thinner. So that is making me really want to get off of the pred. But this is the lowest i have been able to take for fourteen months. Maybe i can ween totally off of the pred in a few weeks.
See the ortho about my knees in a few days. One small piece at a time and i am doing better. I get more freaked out about the infections than any thing else these days. But i guess my ENT would not be in buisness if others did not have the same problems. He said antibiotics have a hard time crossing the blood stream to the sinuses sometimes. So they go in with a needdle and put the antibiotics directly in to the sinuses. Hope this can help others with chronic sinus problems. Hope it helps me also. Hang in there and keep the faith.
Wow- that's a procedure to keep in the back of my head. My daughter gets reoccurring sinus infections.

Hope you continue to do well! Good luck with the
prednisone taper!
Let us know how that works out!  I've never been offered such a treatment, but I'll have to look into it should I get another stubborn sinus infection.  I'd rather not take antibiotics for weeks on end. Ditto for me too, maybe if this current infection drags on too long, I'll ask about this. This has never been mentioned to me, but I knew of it from one of my many sleepless nights of surfing the net.  I wish this had been posted two days ago as I saw my ENT yesterday and would have asked him about it.  This is very interesting keep us posted on how it works for you.

Bob
I am actually having sinus surgery in about 10 days. I too get recurring sinus infections and over this past summer I was on 6-7 rounds of antibiotics. my doc said no more and told me to go get the surgery (I have been putting it off since 04)   so thats my plan--I have used so many other things---meds, sprays, rinses etc etc etc....
nothing has ever worked---so I guess this is the last resort.
I will update all when its over---I am VERY nervous as the surgery just sounds so gross and painful. I had a knee replacement, but this surgery just scares me more!!!!!!
