This is a link about a study done connecting giant cell and chlamydia pneumonia.  The only thing that helped the swelling in my hands was Minocin so I was tested for chlamydia pneumonia and it was positive.  I am now starting the protocol to try and get rid of this bug which involves several antibiotics as I think this is the cause of my PMR.  Just wanted to share this with the group; I am researching today to try and find more current information. Thanks for posting this. I found this link which further explains how this thing can wreak such havoc.

Thanks smartie.  I should   say that pred did help most of my symptoms but of course had the side effects.  It did not, however, decrease the swelling in my hands; only the antibiotic minocin did that.  That was my first clue that some kind of infection had caused all this.Thank you PatandPaula, and Smartie, that is great information. I have been studying about Mycoplasma, which is very similar to the C. Pneumoniae you talked about. Both are treated with Minocin, and I think you have to take the antibiotics for quite a while with the Mycoplasma. Please keep us updated with your progress.

p&p,

What kind of test detects the c. pneumoniea??

The blood test is a specific test for the Chlamydia Pneumonia microplasma.  I specifically asked my doc to test me for this because this illness is so strange and because the antibiotic helped.  Aftr researching for hours, I asked him to test me for everything and anything relative to microplasmas, with a separate test for the Chlamydia Pneumonia.  I definitely think I had the Polymyalgia R. but I also think it was caused by the C Pneumonia.  Testing on people with Giant Cell  (GCA) associated with Polymyalgia showed that many people had the C Pneumonia. so I think there is definitely a connection, at least for me.
