I was kicked out of physical therapy | Arthritis Information

I had my physical therapy evaluation on Tuesday. (If you remember I am the one with 1 1/2 hours of therapy 2-3 times a week. That's not including the at home workouts.) My therapist is stopping my physical therapy due to non-progress. Unfortunately, I still can't straighten my knee. I am very close though. My muscles are still fairly atrophied. My therapist feels that I need to wait for my Synvisc injections to finish and perhaps that may help. So I will see him after a 6 week break for another revaluation. I still have my exercises to do at home meanwhile.

He said I am having so much pain that I can't develop the muscles as I should be able to. He is worried that this may be all I can expect. He had a honest talk to me about when they were going to do the knee replacement. He thinks it should be sooner than later. He is afraid that my muscle tone and range of mobility is being compromised by the bad shape of my knee. He said that there is a chance that even if I had the replacement right now I might never get the range of motion and strength back. He said I might only have a 90 degree range of motion if I'm lucky. He will be sending a report to my Dr. and we can discuss his findings.

So please put me in your prayers that the
Synvisc injections help the pain so I can properly finish my therapy. I just want to reduce the pain, straighten my leg, and be able to climb stairs. Say a prayer for me....

I was in the same place about 8 years ago.  Within about 2 years I went from fine   to bone on bone.  I had a 30 degree contracture (meaning I could not straighten my knee past 30 degrees.  Nor could I bend it past 90 degrees.  My surgeon was fairly sure that I  would never get my knee straight again even after my knee replacement.  It took lots of work but did come straight in the end after a fair bit of physio.   Having my knee replacements was the best thing I ever did.  I got my mobility back fairly quickly.  (By the way you will only get 90-100 degrees of bend back, that is the maximum that a replacement goes)
I'm with your physio. I think you need to press your doctor to get your knee replacement.  Once it gets to the stage where it affects your quality of living, it is time to get it done.
All the best.
when I finally TOLD my doctor that I was done, I wanted the knee replacement NOW, it was the right decision for me.  I had no results from Synvisc.  When he got it open he told my husband it was definately time.  YOU know what's right for you.  Push for it.
