bottom of foot pain | Arthritis Information

Hello again.

Does anyone have constant burning at the bottom of their feet when they are standing/walking? I do...(obviously, hence the post). It is horrible. Makes me not want to move around at all. I wince with every step i take. When i am not on my feet, it really does not hurt so much. I am not sure burning is the right description...more just like bad pressure pain...like walking on nails. Does this make sense? Does anyone have anything like this? And if so, does anything help? My MRIs show tendinitis/bone marrrow edema and effusions. am on azulfidine (8 weeks now) 25 mgs of pred (short-term, not helping this time). The 40 mgs of prednisone took it away, but the 25 is doing nothing. What can i do? Ice or heat? I have not had any luck with anything! OK thanks for any feedback.

Custom orthodics that were prescribed my by orthopedic surgeon saved me as far as the ball of the foot pain. Before them I felt as if I had rocks and broken glass sewn into my feet when I walked.

hmmmm, i might have to go that route. my orthopeodist did not offer that to me. maybe i need to see a podiatrist? How much did they cost, like 400? Do you know what they are made out of?

I have some New Balance shoes that are a little different and the podiatrist reccommended them. They take a lot of your wt off your heels especially and are good if you have or had heel spurs. If you can go to a New Balance store they can assist you. Kind of expensive, 0.00 but well worth every cent. They do look kind of funny at first but they sure do feel good.

I wearnew balace they are the best.....................teresa

The ortho surgeon can prescribe them. Actually my rheumo had been after me to get some, and then my ortho said to get some.

I wear the inserts with New Balance tennis shoes. The orthodics ran around 175.00, but insurance paid 85 percent and 85 percent for the tennis shoes that they go in since I had to get a larger size shoe.

.

Came to this site specifically to see if anyone else has this sort of pain - I've just had a really bad few days with it - yesterday couldn't really move around much at all.  I had mentioned it to my rheumatologist but he's not really that interested as I don't want to go onto medication.  Just made an appointment to see an orthopeadic surgeon - was really hoping that it wasn't to do with my arthritis! - thought it might be a neuroma.  I find that wearing jandals that are quite spongy is good because they put absolutely no pressure on the joint area of the foot - they're cheap so it's worth a go.  Other than that I normally wear asic running shoes - might have to check out the New Balance shoesThe New Balance shoe is a 925. It is for stability. They really do make a difference. Have you been checked for nueroapathy(?), friend of mine had the same symptoms and took quite abit of time but they finally figured it out.  Granted this is usually associated with diabetes, but you can still get it.  meme

I wound up getting some really good supportive shoes and that did it for me.  The doc forbid me from wearing sandals at all, but I found some okabashi sandals (plastic ergonomic things) that don't bother my feet.  :)

Sounds a little like Plantar Facitis.  I had that about 2 years ago and I know how painful it can be.  But it also can be treated...If it is Plantar Facitis.  A Orthopedic can order xrays of your feet to see what is happening to them.  Actually your RA doctor should have taken foot xrays of your feet, cause it could also be RA in your feet.

I did morning and evening foot stretching exercises, while still in bed.  I also added Dr Schoals gel soles to my tennis shoes.  It took a while but did heal and now I very rarely have any pain from it any more, unless I do to much walking, with out good foot supports.  My foot xrays showed that I had the heel spurs and osteoarthritis in my foot.

I hope it's not that.  Hope you start feeling better.  Nothing worse than having your feet hurt all the time.

Here is a link to some information on Plantar Facitis.

NYALI,

I don't have the pain you have but I do have a lot of feet problems. I go to a person who does accupressure on my feet. Maybe you can consult a reflexologist (sp). They specialize in foot massage. Sometimes it may hurt but then the pain subsides. I know you don't want to experience anymore pain. Definitely ask the reflexologist what you may experience after the treatment. These treatments can be costly but I believe sooo worth it! HTH
