Hello,

I was wondering if anyone is on disability because of their RA? I am a freelance makeup artist and have a very small business. I occasionally do some promotional work but certainly nothing to write home about.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I am eligible for disability and what are the requirements?

Thank you for any advice.I just got disability 2 wks ago I applied 2 mnths ago I live in canada some of are rules are different but here it is hard to get it you get denied very often the first time I was expecting that but the lady told me that my employment record 16 yrs same company I am a hairdresser. And my rhuemy is behind me and i have been very sick. I wrote down everyday what was going on if I could not do things I feel in the bath I had bad pain flaring in what ever that day brings write it down like a diary cause the more you tell them the better If you can not brush your teeth cause your hands are flaring just write . goodluck TERESAI have been on disability for 2 years now. The first thing to do is get a RA specialist and have them confirm you are no longer to work. (most have sympathy and understand). Then go to your social security office and fill out the proper forms for SSDI, then go straight to a lawyer. With out the lawyer your screwed! Don't be afraid of the lawyer fees, most only charge you a small percentage of your intial approved claim. (I only paid 35 dollars). If you have any more question just ask. Ivypoe,

Thanks for the info. Do you know when one is on disability for RA, do they allow you to work (even if it's only very little)?

I found a lawyer or a disability advocate on www.disabilitysecrets.com
they are based in California

Hatehavingra,

The SS laws states you are able to work part time, in some cases full. HOWEVER.....those of whom I have been in contact with, who have tried a little part time work, have had their disability revoked. Its a catch 22 thing.

Another sticky situation is your health insurance.  You will not recieve Medicare until 2 years after your approved claim. I have medical bills out the wazoo. However, there might be a glimmer of hope, Medicare may pick up those extra cost once it is activated.

Do you have children under the age of 19 who are still in school? if so, they too will recieve SS payments.
