Does anyone have a lot of inflammation in their jaw joint when flaring?  Can this cause my hearing to be muffled and fluid to collect on the ear?  I saw two ER docs this past week, one said there was fluid on my ear and gave me a Z pack for an ear infection, the other...the very next day said there is no fluid that she can see.  I wasn't aware that the fluid could come and go so quickly.   I mean I know it can drain but didn't think it would be completely gone just like that.

I have in the past. I was like you. First time had ear infection and was given the z pack. (That stuff does work fast). Then a couple days after stopping the antiobiotics my jaw and ear were hurting again and I went to prompt care again and nope no infection. I have had my rd look at my ear alot. My jaw always pops especially after talking alot or eating and my jaw itself doesn't hurt just my ear. SO, that' my experience. Not much help. I wish I know the difference but it's so hard to figure out without a dr looking in your ear.

You could have TMJ disorder. The symptoms can cause ear pain and tooth pain. I went to my dentist because I was sure I had an abcessed tooth only to get a referral to a TMJ specialist. I clench my teeth all of the time, and had to wear a splint on my bottom teeth to help relax my jaw. That was pre RA diagnosis. Now with RA I will have days where the joint flares and is painful. I got braces a few months ago, and they put a bite plate behind both of my two front teeth. It prevents me from biting down completely, so no clenching. The braces have really helped, but I still get jaw pain now and then which I know is from the arthritis in the joint. See your dentist for an evaluation and they can refer you to a specialist if necessary. Also, I had a full feeling in my ear which made me feel like I couldn't hear as well as usual, and I can have very loud ringing in my ears from time to time. Hope this is helpful.
