Hi guys, Liam saw local hosp paediatrician today, he said he believes Liam is suffering from JIA and AS, now 3 Drs think this, one is my rheumy.  While on high doses of pred he has been doing well, but now on 7.5mg and eyes are inflamed again and pain is returning slowly, so next move by paed RD is MTX for 12 months, any thoughts on my reluctance to put him on it?  I guess I know he has to but I am not comfortable with it.   Paed RD says he doesn't think it is inflammatory so that is why I am reluctant.  Thanks guys, Janie.  janiefx2009-01-12 06:51:24IDK.. I'm thinking if the inflammation doesn't return after stopping Pred.. maybe you can avoid the MTX altogether?  no?

I feel for your boy, Janie.......  I was him....

Good luck.Janiefx,

I'm sorry your son's going through this. I hope you get some good answers!

I'm so sorry, Janie, and my only thoughts about pred vs. mtx would be that mtx is disease-modifying and pred isn't.  I'm confused  that the ped rheum doesn't think it is inflammatory?  If he thinks it is JIA, wouldn't he call that inflammatory?
janie- I have to say ditto Suzanne. Also so sorry you are both going through this. It's so hard as a mom to make these kinds of decisions. You only want the best for your child and you are always afraid you'll do wrong.

Janie I am  new here and I would like to say that I am very sorry you have a child with JIA. I know a young girl of 14 who has it. She is going through a good phase at the moment but has been through hell in the past. I wish your son all the best.

Hi Babs, yes I would like to think it won't return, I am praying and crossing fingers!  Thanks.

Thanks Jan, Klynn and Shirley, your well wishes are gratefully accepted.

HI Suzanne and WTBRA, it isn't his paed rheumy in Brisbane, that thinks it is JIA.  It is my RD, GP and the local hospital paed, who see Liam regularly for his epilepsy.  Hugs Janie.

Much hugs to you and your son.Best wishes again.
