I have THe Doctors Book of Home Remedies published by the editors of Prevention Magazine.  Has alot of information.

For Pip- has a section with 19 suggestions for eliminating foot odor including soaking with vinegar.
This really does have alot of good suggestions.  Also for treating nausea, coke, etc.Hi Jan!

I think I have that book in storage.  LOL  Hey, guess what.  That vinegar did something.  We ended up racing out of the house for something and I left the foot bath in the tub to deal with later.  Shame on me.  Anyway, when I dumped it the next morning to clean it out, there was a fine layer of SLUDGE on the bottom.  Ick!

THe book also lists soaking in tea for antibacterial.

Really good practical book.
My mom has a copy of this book. She swears by using natural products for a variety of ailments, this will  make interesting reading for me.Jan - since my copy is in storage - what does it say about the tea, please?  I'm thinking tea bags are a lot less expensive than all that vinegar.

Pip, even cheaper is another home remedy for stinky feet - urinating on them in the shower.  It was in an article in our paper during the third grade stinky feet epidemic.  Several moms told me they told their daughters to try it!  As far as I know, it didn't work, because after my daughter was cured by daily sock wearing, they all eventually followed suit and were miraculously cured as well.   OMG! There really was an epidemic!! I thought it was just an isolated outbreak of stinky feet. In our area its usually seasonal, with the worst of the symptoms abating when the rain starts and children are forced to wear socks and shoes. The one stinky foot stronghold would be the high school. My teens would wear flip flops in the snow (hypothetically, since it doesn't snow here).
. My teens would wear flip flops in the snow (hypothetically, since it doesn't snow here). Toe socks with flip flops here.  Drives me crazy, but at least they don't stink.

My daughter is always complaining of being cold, too - but still goes barefoot around the house.
Toe socks with flip flops!! Hilarious!!!
My daughter frequently complains of being too hot, but won't remove her ever-stylish hooded sweatshirts. Apparently, fashion sometimes requires sacrafice..

Here is an abbreviated list:

Wash often.
Powder toes with foot powder, cornstarch or antifungal spray.  Also treat shoes-sprinkle insides with talcum powder or cornstarch.
Use an antiperspirant- foot or underarm.
Change socks often
Wear 2 pair of socks
Use shoe sense- sandals if appropriate, stay away from rubber or plastic shoes that don't allow feet to breath.
Take frequent soaks-
Tea- 3 or 4 teabags in qt of water for 20-30 min twice a day
Baking soda- l tbspoon in qt water
VInegar- l/2 cup in qt water.
Put sage in shoes
Try inserts- Johnson's OdorEaters
Stay cool - stress increases sweating
Watch what you eat- spicy food odors can be excreted through glands of the feet.
It's the bacteria that causes the problem as sweat itself does not smell.  I just wet a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wipe my toes in between and under daily.  Just the toes.  Works like a charm for me.  The alcohol kills the bacteria  Cheap too Pip.    Thanks Jan and GG!

Will continue to work on the problem and will post the results.

Jan, silly question, but did it say 'black' tea?  Hubby and I were talking about this and don't see if there would be a problem giving the baby a 'tea' bath.  Anybody think this could be a problem?

Pip
This is really gross but I couldn't resist after reading the urinating comment.  My mom told me that her grandparents used to say that putting urine in the ear of someone that had an ear infection would cure it.  I'm not about to try that one, but like I said I couldn't resist.

I don't think it specified what kind of tea.  Will check and let you know.

GG-

It also recommended cleaning with alcohol.

Pip-

I checked.  It doesn't specify the kind of tea.  I guess any would be O.K.

Black tea.  The tannins in the tea act as an astringent, which lessens the perspiration.
Black tea.  The tannins in the tea act as an astringent, which lessens the perspiration.
When I had my dental bone graft, my oral surgeon gave me a few black tea bags and said if the bleeding didn't stop to wet a tea bag and place it over the stitches and it would stop the bleeding.

This is a very interesting post!
I'm just wondering if I give her baths in it, can it stop the vitilgo?  Myco's burrow into the hair follicle and kill something in it which causes the lack of pigmentation.  Kill the infection and it should recolor.
