Check out this link from Dr. Mercola's newsletter. Is it possible that this cheap drug will help us? I would be willing to try it!
Has anyone heard of this before? www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/"The brief blockade of opioid receptors between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. that is caused by taking LDN at bedtime each night is believed to produce a prolonged up-regulation of vital elements of the immune system by causing an increase in endorphin and enkephalin production." www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/ This is a quote from the website.

Here is dr. mercola's article: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/01/06/can-ldn-really-help-multiple-sclerosis-rheumatoid-arthritis-and-other-autoimmune-diseases.aspx

Hey Jodi.  I have been on low dose naltrexone since September of '08.  I really feel like it has made my fibromyalgia retreat.  Taking the drug, in addition to my regular drugs, has made a difference in how "fragile" I feel.  I can not say it has made my RA retreat as it is now busy with my lungs.  Here is an article on the ldn website, make sure you check out their homepage.  http://www.ldninfo.org/ldn_and_ai.htm
Waddie
How did you get the prescription, Waddie, since it has to be compounded? Was your doctor supportive? what else are you taking for RA and fibro?
I often wonder what triggered my RA. My RA started after taking Paxil for a few months and it is interesting that I started a drug that change your "mood chemicals" and now they are saying endorphins might be related to autoimmune diseases. Of course they would know if paxil caused ra, but maybe it was part of a "perfect storm" that triggered it in me.

Off topic, I'm wondering why when I paste a link it doesn't designate it as a link like everyone else's does. Jodi, I am very lucky that I have a supportive RA doc.  I went in loaded with the ldn info and the links to it, she looked at the research and of course side effects, and wrote the script for 4.5 mg. for 90 day supply.  I found a compounding pharmacy so that problem was solved.  I do notice a change in mood, more edginess, when I skip a dose.  I take Humira, MTX, folic acid and trazadone (for sleep) as well as the naltrexone.  I also take vitimin supplements.  I think the research is very interesting on the endorphine and AI issues, so many of us have problems sleeping.

Off topic issue; at the top of the message box there is a tool bar that has a "link" icon (little earth w/ chain).  Click on that when you want to post a link and paste the web address there and it will post it to your message.

You have to use the web link icon (the earth with the sideways figure 8) to make a link.  It's not automatic here.
