You all know we are raising our grandkids.. Jakie is 3 years old.

Kid developed a large scrotal mass. I first saw it Sunday after his bath. left side of scrotum is bigger than a golf ball. Maybe the size of a handball/raquet ball. Anyway big, noticeble and tender.

We went to dr today. He was talking up a storm to the nurse. "I's is gots a sore scrotum, boys have scrotums, mine hurts me, you dont have a scrotum, mommy doesnt have a scrotum, but Papa does. The dr gonna look at mine scrotum and fix it." in one breath.
He then went on to discus in more detail where it hurts and how his scrotum is right next to his pee pee. Barb (the nurse) and I were just about doubled up trying to laugh silently.

Anyhoo dr comes in plays with the kid a little, then does the exam, says its either a hernia or hydrocele, neither of which was present before.. We see urologist on thursday to figure out where to do surgery. We are hoping its down here, but dr raised possibility of it being in Buffalo at Childrens Hospital, on the chance the local anesthesiologist isnt comfortable working on a 3 year old.

sigh.

Oh Kathy, poor Jakie!  You are both in my heart.  Keep us informed, please? I've known a few little guys who've had hernia repair - it's apparently not as big of a deal as in adults.  In all cases I've seen, the kid was running around the house within hours of getting home from surgery.  Hang in there! wow- out of the mouths of babes LOL! Poor little guy- hope everything goes easily and well.

Bless his heart, what a sweet boy. I hope all goes well and he is up and running in no time. Best wishes!

Kathy your post brought tears to my eyes.  I have two boys around that age 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 I so feel for you and your little Jakie.  He is a very lucky little boy to have a grandma like you.  I will pray for your little guy, keep us posted!Sending prayers to little Jakie for a quick recovery. awww... what a smart little guy... telling the doctor what he needs to know!!  LOL

I hope all goes quickly -- that you don't have to travel to have him "fixed" --- and that he can get home quickly to his dinosaur walls......
