Going on a Cruise for my 40th! Mtx questions | Arthritis Information

Share

I haven't posted in awhile, lots of new names.  I've improved since my DX in 7/08 my RD is pleased.    Since I'm feeling well enough now to celebrate my B-Day my DH and I are taking a cruise at the end of this month.

I have a couple of questions:

1.)  Since I am prone to occassional sea sickness is it ok to take dramamine as needed while on MTX?
2.)  I would also like to change the day I take the MTX from a friday to a sunday that week, so I don't have to bring the medication with me.  (I'm fortunate that is all I have to take at this point.)

Thanks,
Bonnie

Talk to your doctor.  There are more effective and less sedating antiemetics available these days.  Dramamine is just a form of benadryl - an antihistamine also used as a sleep medication.

I've used Compazine to treat motion sickness - it works quite well.  I know others who have used scopolamine patches with great success.  Either would probably be OK, but your doctor and pharmacist would be the first people to consult with. I'm not sure of the answers to your questions but I wanted to say ENJOY! Glad you are feeling well and you have great plans for your 40th! HI, it is usually not a problem to dealy your MTX by a couple of days, just check with your GP, my GP does it sometimes to make things easier for me, as I get bad tummies from it, so if I am going out somewhere special she will delay it for me to a point.  Good luck from Janie. Check with your doctor.  I know mine said not to change MTX day that often, if it is necessary, to change it slowly, i.e. if you take it on Thursday, next week, Fri, nex week Saturday, until you're at the desired day.  He suggested I pick a day and stay with it.

Although this is a great source of information on here, sometimes you're better off calling your own doctor.

Enjoy your cruise!  I haven't been on one in years.  Hey, just a thought, I know my mom used to get sea sick and she used a pressure point bracelet.  That may work for you and it isn't medication.
Ginger candy or ginger is a good anti-sea-sickness remedy.   But unless it is very unusual weather, you shouldn't get sick on one of those big mamma-jamma ships. You'd have to hit might rough weather to feel the motion.Ah, I've actually skipped a dose when I was on vacation. Hey, I needed a real vacation. I never skip the Humira because that leaves your body fast but MTX builds up in your body. That is why it takes 2 -3 months to fully work so moving it three days is ok, and I wouldn't worry about doing it gradually. My doc said only do gradually (12 hours) if you are going backwards.

Talk to your doctor though, we are all different.

I called my RD and left my questions with his nurse.  She left a message on my machine:

1.) Dramamine is OK to take. ( I tried the wrist bands and did not like them )

2.) If I don't want to take the MTX with me I could just skip the dose if I want, or moving a few days is OK,  I shouldn't notice any difference in how I feel.

I think I may skip the dose since I plan on having a few frozen drinks

Thanks for your replies!
Have a fun! And drink a drink for me! Preferrably strawberry. I am on a strawberry kick LOL!

Let us know how it goes!
