feeling better MTX | Arthritis Information

I started taking MTX (5mg) in June and have slowly upped it to 12.5. I think I am beginning to get better. I was so terrified to try this drug and iI have had no side effects at all. What a pleasure to take it only once a week.
Cathy
hiphop,

It took this long to kick in? I was on it 2 years ago and my dosage had to be increased as well. I didn't have any side effects either. Maybe some hair fall out but no mouth sores, etc. Good luck!

Cathy,

Glad to see that it is helping you!

I hope it has kicked in....! I think the dose was too low. I have just come off azulfidine so I really hope I know what I am doing......
Fingers all swollen this morning......

Glad to see MTX appears to be working for it. Too many people tend to give it a bad rap. A shame, because it really is a good drug when used carefully.

I've been on MTX for about 10 years now. I had a really tough time getting  used to it - until I found out about the folic acid, which made all the difference in the world in terms of nausea for me. I've probably gotten used to the nausea over the years; the only thing I notice nowadays is that between 24-48 hours post-drug I'm a bit sluggish.

The drug has worked wonders for me and I hope it does the same for you.

I have been off mtx for about 6 months - in order to get pregnant but I had been on it for 20 months. I lost a bit of hair and became quite tired and lethargic about 24hrs afterwards. I began taking it in the mornings but found taking at night was better as I didn't tend to get any nausea that way. From what I understand I was on the maximum dose - 20mg. I found that my symptoms improved after about 2 months and as long as I took folic acid the side effects were't too bad. I agree that it does get a worse rap than it deserves. However I feel I wasn't given enough info on it before I started - it can have some unexpected side effects like a higher risk of skin cancer..... same as immuran, which I found out the hard way.

All the best

Shaz
