Where you been?  Hope all is well........ Good to see you back...I like reading your posts

hugs Janie. I'm back at home now.  My brother is doing OK, all things considered.  He's been sober for over a year now and is being evaluated for a liver transplant.  Still not sure how I feel about that.  Anyway, he's got to go through all sorts of tests and evaluations before he gets on the waiting list.  He had appointments all day yesterday, and my sister and I took him.  He's easily disoriented and definitely would not have been able to handle the day on his own.  We all stayed in Madison for 2 days.  We had a good time - talking and laughing about all the crap from our bizarre childhood, and about our kids, spouses, ex's, etc.
Jas, are you worried he'll abuse a new liver?  Will he make a full recovery if he has a transplant, be able to live a full life?  He's fortunate to have people who care about and will help him.  So, Madison, eh.  I'm from Madison, WI.  I hope they took good care of all of you.
He's had bouts of sobriety in the past.  He has the maturity level of a 12-year old, and I'm not sure he's up to the responsibility.  It's not my place to say who "deserves" a new organ, but part of me says that someone whose liver is damaged through no fault of their own should receive higher priority.  On the other hand, he's been drinking since he was 12 (or earlier)... it's not totally his fault that he's been drunk for most of the past 30 years.  Our family allowed and enabled his bad habits.  I'm not trying to "blame the victim," or make excuses for his own stupid decisions.  Lots of tough choices, to be sure... I'm glad I'm not in the business of passing out new livers.
