Haven't I been posting about the effects of microbes on our minds - bipolar, schizophrenia etc?  Now look what was in Scientific American.

I am ahead of my times.  LOL

That is amazing and yet at the same time totally unsurprising. Good find!I must be loaded then....I'm nuts!LOL Bob!

I was amazed that strep could be involved - knew that about autism but...geez - I coulda had that instead of RA!!!

Pip
I knew about Strep and syphilis being involved in neurologic disorders.  Hitler had neurosyphilis which many think is the reason why the man was so insane.  I have a friend that has a brother with autism that might find that article interesting.  He's always doing research into the subject. Please ask him to contact me here if he finds more strep links, would you?  I know a person who works with autism kids who told me that 'we all know strep is involved' but since that's not my primary research area I kind of didn't research it deeply.

Also - GoGo - did you notice the vaccine comments on page 4 or 5?  Hows that for a scary thought.

I think I saw this on House.but seriously.. the infection issue w/ pregnancy and schizophrenia has to do w/ development... not the microbes themselves... I've done ALOT of research into this area of prenatal development. You missed the important part mentioned twice in detail.

>>>The body’s immune reaction, rather than the infections themselves, may be to blame for the resulting brain damage and psychiatric symptoms.<<<That's the secondary possiblity Anna.  However, this is a condensation of a lot of NIH funded research into this microbe connection - remember my friend who is dealing with mental health issues - I found a TON of research on schizpphrenia and different microbes.  You can read it all on PubMed - or you an pick one sentence out of the entire article to reaffirm your belief in 'genetics' and 'immune' and totally disregard the rest of it.

How about this sentence?

Even the small body of work that now exists could have immediate policy implications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently recommend that all pregnant women get flu shots—a dangerous proposition if immune response, rather than infection itself, is responsible for harming the fetal brain. “I don’t think they have considered this risk. In fact, I know they haven’t considered this risk,” Patterson says, referring to the CDC. “If you take it seriously and vaccinate everybody, then what’s going to happen?” Researchers cannot yet predict how often a prenatal immune response might lead to fetal brain damage, but even if it happens less than 1 percent of the time, vaccinating an entire population of pregnant women could affect thousands of children.

Because of course, if it's 'immune response' - you'd have to say vaccines weren't a good thing.  Right?

Babs - of course you saw this on House - this is April 08 - and in the LA Times.  Where do you think the writers get the ideas that show up on your series?  I read of the 'attack dog' and thought 'Law and Order' and 5 months later it was on air.

Pip!2009-01-20 21:34:48I thought schizphrenia was caused from being possessed

( no attacks at a little humor for the one's that think this is a serious comment)
(having to explain intent That was Pre- Vatican II - lol - now it's science!

I'm waiting to hear that microbes can solve the economic issues.

Really...the big target in the autism community remains vaccines.  You wouldn't think they would be so concerned with thos if "we all know" its strep
Babs -

Can you go back over this thread and quote your serious comment?  I have no idea what your're talking about, sorry.

As for the 'economic issues' - (which you first mentioned 2 posts up) well - with National Health Care supposedly on the table, with AI people using all these expensive drugs, if microbes are discovered to cause disease and you can easily cure those diseases, then the cost of running a NHC would drop and less people would be 'disabled' taking a lot of pressure off of SS and Disability.

It doesn't solve the loss of regulation tho.

Buckeye - my point exactly.  When she said this (and I've posted this before) my ears perked up.  I found a few studies but not enough to cover 'we all know this'.  Also, I think I posted that she said it was in how the vaccines were administered (into the gut) and I believe you stated that they were NOT given into the gut.  That was the end of my 'research'.

Pip
It would be a lot cheaper to have cures for stuff.
but seriously.. the infection issue w/ pregnancy and schizophrenia has to do w/ development... not the microbes themselves... I've done ALOT of research into this area of prenatal development.
voila!  serious comment..

infections during differing stages of pregnancy are the possible culprit of alot of brain issues for newborns....  not saying it's microbes...  but most are developmental in nature.

and the economical comment was a joke.

From your post above, I thought you'd might have asked about the economic issues somewhere and not expected a comment to your comment.  I think it was poorly worded (not like I'm not always doing that when I'm in a hurry) which is why I didn't respond - because I didn't know you wanted a response.  Capishe?

The entire article says it may induce changes in development.  Nowhere in here does it say a cell wall deficient bacteria may be left behind - which is exactly what APers and a growing body of infectious research is saying.  The fact that these microbes have been shown to 'rekey the lock' makes sense if you look at it from a microbiological aspect.  If the remaining CWD bacteria are living off the neurochemials (like the microbes involved in thyroid disease do with the HPA axis) then its no wonder the same 'infection' (strep) can induce different manifestations of disease.

I just think these guys are really close to figuring this out.  Research Minocycline and schizophrenia sometime - some intriging research where when people get the abx their 'symptoms' disappear.

Sounds like AP to me.

Hugs,

Pip
I swear I just don't get what this is all about.

sTink -

APer's (the radicals) say we are sick from bacteria.  Strep is one I tested positive for.  if you go to www.cpnhelp.com you can see pics of strep in all 3 of it's life forms.  The one that gives you a sore throat is what they give you antibiotics for.  You take them and the strep is gone.  Supposedly.  But when they invented the Darkfield microscope they were able to really magnify the bacteria and said 'whoa, we got rid of the strep, but what are those little outposts over there".  The answer was - two other versions of strep which is very able to reactivate and get inside the cells and make us sick.

GoGo posted this link a long time ago - take a look at the little blue things in the cell.  To an APer - this is why we are sick.  And why we use antibiotics (abx) to control the disease.

If you want a good, quick read - get the New Arthritis Breakthrough by Henry Scammell on Amazon or at some libraries.  It explains the AP angle in easy to understand manner.

Hugs,

Pip
PS - the point of this thread was some other docs are saying these microbes are causing mental illness.
PSS - put "cell wall deficient bacteria" in Google and run a search.  Some amazing stuff.
