amen, I am amazed at how many people dismiss healthy eating habits on the road to better health. Especially watching what kids eat at diners, OMG, majority is hamberger, french fries and cokeI think they are still searching for answers for obesity because it is such a problem here in America.  They probably feel it can't be just from over-eating.
Medicine is not an exact science.  There is still so much modern medicine does not know.  Portion control is still the best way in my opinion to combat obesity.  I have been with people who will order a sundae and doughnuts at the same time as a snack and then countiue to snack every 10 minutes on chocolates or something just as fattening or drink large of amounts of sugary sodas, to me that snack portion is too much unless you are Michael Phelps.  Also there are people who are extremely skinny and remain so for most of their lives eating whatever they feel like.  Why is that?  That would make me want to research obesity too.

However, I am willing to entertain the idea of the bacteria infection theory causing RA or even the possibility of a viral insult to the body that tricks the immune system to turn on the body which is what I think happens, a virus the body could not fight for whatever reason and antibiotics could not kill.  I personally would have liked to been given a broad spectrum antibiotic and a DMARD at the same time at the first sign of the disease.
There is no cure for RA which means everything is a theory at the moment, not even enough control  to create remissions, and until there is a cure, I will be considering other possibilities.

Sorry Shel,

You can not convince ME there is no cure

3 years medicine and RA FREE
Stem Cell Transplant, SCIENCE IS ALMOST THERE

Not my opinion or my words.
This what we hear and my RA is raging out of control despite heroic efforts.
Of course I will be rooting for your version.  I don't know if I will be able to still walk when it happens but right now, today it ain't there yet.

The stem cell transplant does keep me hoping.  Gotta keep hoping to keep going with so much pain.

But you know how people say they got the holy ghost in church?  well I belong to those type-churches. yet I have never gotten the holy ghost ever. I do keep an open mind about it, however.  Well, that is kind of how I feel when people say they are RA free. Sometimes RA spontaneously go into remission and the diet, medication combo, therapy gets the credit in my opinion. because I have never experienced this.

However, there isn't anything I haven't tried at least the things people say put them in remission, the arthritis diet, eat right for your blood type, eliminate nightshades, the AP therapy, etc. and not once have I been in any sustained type of remission for more than a couple of weeks. improved on enbrel at one point, but the labs always say ra is alive and active.

Nonetheless, I will keep an open mind.  I am rooting for you.  I'd be crazy not to when I am the one who could possibly benefit as well.
Snow,

Don't worry about misspelling my screen name.  I am having a hard time with remembering how to spell.  I imagine the meds Ii am on so I do a lot of editing here or you would not be able to read my message but for my name, I will figure it out.:)

I agree with everything you said about all of it.  I do not see it as a disease.  and no I am not obese either so don't know if that is why.  I do believe there is an underlying cause be it medication, biologic, or emotional. I do feel the underlying cause should be addressed. but it seems to be the way of medicine with things they can't figure out is to just treat the symptoms. Some of the poeple I have loved immensely have been overweight so I am able to look beyond weight and wish they could too. I do see the big picture and realize we are sold on a image of what beauty is and what normal is. in some cultures overweight is a good thing and even at times in this society having a meat on the bones is beautiful. so it is a society thing.

they kind of do our condition like that to, "one size fits all."

the stem cell thing.  I am so rooting for this to work. I will be the first in line for it.  I am not a scientist but to be a research scientist was my plan as young woman.. so very interested in this and like I said will be the first in line for it.
Hey Snow,

I think we are online at the same time.  You posted before I could respond.  No not at all.  That post was to stencel4me. I should have placed stencel4me at the top.

Actually I think I even misunderstood stencel4me.

Sorry...Stencel did you actually have the stemcell transplant done? Is that why you are RA free.

Yeah Snow,
That was a weird time warp kind of thing. Probably needed instant messaging for that.
Yes that is my wish also since they don't seem to be doing anything but treating the symptoms, to at least have meds that didn't cause all of these other problems with hair loss, memory loss, weight gain, nausea to name a few.  How about the side effects are luscious lashes, thick hair, beautiful complexion, etc. instead.  LOL!
