Tuskegee Experiment | Arthritis Information

Would this hideous, horrifying and shameful experiment in America's past be an example of an untreated infection?  Does syphillus qualify as an 'L-form' or only as a spirochette?

How would the end result compare to us?

Is there any info on what happened physically to those poor men?

Edited to correct mispelling Tuskegee.  Sheesh!
Pip!2009-01-27 22:43:57yes its an example of what can happen when syphillus is untreated...that was the whole point of the so called experiement.  Syphillus is a spirochette bacterium.

The end result doesn't compare..even if RA is an infection people don't generally die of RA itself

read any textbook on syphillus and you will be able to read what happens to people with untreated syphillus.  You will not see any specific results from the Tuskegee experiment because publishing violates ethic laws that were passed in 1972 after the ecperiment as ended.

More than 120 men died of the syphillus or  syphillus related problems.  Many of their wives and children were infected as well
Yes, Buckeye, but one thread I read said '100 people died of complications of syphillus' and listed cardiac, mental illness and a few other 'inflammation' based causes of death.

People do too die of RA.  My husbands aunt did.  Not only that there are a few studies out there which relied on information on death certificates as in 'secondary to RA" as a basis for the morbidiity study.  Plus, we can die from side effects of our meds to treat this disease.

I'm just wondering what the difference between a spirochette and an L-form would be long term.

Pip
i did say generally don't die most people die with RA not from RA though I know of people where internal complications of RA were the cause of death.

I don't know the difference off the top of my head...
Don't know much about this but do now about the brutal murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Thanks Buckeye (Hi Jan) - you were my only hope for a quick answer.  I'll research and see what comes up.

Pip
I'm sorry I failed you

I'll do better next time I read somewhere that a lot of what was thought to be leprosy was actually syphillus.
