Update on Liam. | Arthritis Information

HI guys, well, Liam finished his pred on Tuesday, his eyes have been blistering again since about two to three weeks ago, (while weaning the pred).  His eyes are awful now, and his pain has been creeping back until today, it has returned big time.  I started with paracetamol, then Nurofen, Nurofen gel, then tramal and then another tramal.  By the time he went to bed he was in quite a bit of discomfort.  I knew this would happen, I may take him to my GP tomorrow after getting his bloods taken.  Then I think I will phone his paed rheumy to ask if MTX can be started sooner, his current apt is 20th Feb?????  Just went back to school on Weds, poor kid was happy about being back too!  Any other suggestions guys?  Regards Janie. Janie, my opthamologist has me do hot/warm compresses to the eyes twice a day (three compresses in a row for about 30-40 seconds each time), with saline flushes.  I don't know if your doctor would recommend this or not, but I have to peel my eyelids open every morning, go straight to the hot compresses, then the flush, then regular lubricant drops, and it feels so GOOD.  I do it the minute I get home from work, it feels so GOOD to get the grime of the day out of my eyes.

He also has me massage under the eyes, pushing gently up towards the lashes as this is where the lubricant comes from, as your tears come from above your eye, then they mix together, then drain down your nose through the tear duct.  Which he just cauterized both of my ducts shut to keep as much tears/lube in as possible because of the extreme dryness I have which has now resulted in an ulcer, abrasions, small erosions, and now the new cataract (which is possibly Predisone-induced).

That's my eyeball experience (except for a couple of posters in here that remember my eyeball typo :)  Huggles to you and I hope your Liam gets better soon.  Cathy
poor guy! He's been through so much.  I have some things that I do for my eyes too.... I use eye goggles... I can get the link if you're interested.... they have "cooling pads" inside that I wet before wearing and after applying restasis..  I also either wash my eye lids and lash area w/ tear free shampoo or some eye wash product I've purchased..  PM me if you want names... or post here and I'll get the info......

I sure hope things get better for Liam....he's been having such a rough time.

So sorry to hear about Liam.  I hope they can help him soon.  Maybe the warm compresses would help him.  Keep us posted...Hiking_galA solution of 1/3 baby shampoo to 2/3 water is great for washing the eye area.  I use it twice a day along with the hot compresses.  I also use restasis and bacitrician ointment at bed.  If he doesn't need the antibiotic ointment, you can buy OTC lubricating eye ointment to be put in at bed.  The ointment is thicker than drops and seems to help a bit more. Janie, I am sending all my healing wishes to Liam today, so young to deal with this mess.  I really hope some of the above helps to ease his suffering.  I know when your child suffers, so do you so I am sending you all my hope and energy today in hoping that you will have more. Awww- I'm so sorry this poor kid can't catch a break. I don't have any suggestions either but I'll keep you both in my prayers for endurance, strength and healing!
Keep us posted. I feel especially connected now that you posted his picture.
Poor kid.  I don't have any other suggestions-I just hope he can get some relief.Thankyou so much everyone, I packed him off to school this am, he wasn't 100% but I need to encourage him to keep going, he slept well but complained of his knee, spine and heel, so I gave him some Nurofen and 1 tramal 50mg, he did not want to go to school, but I think he needs to keep his mind active, so I spoke to his teacher and asked her to keep an eye on him and phone me if he worsens, she is brilliant with him.  Please God he will make it thru the day with minimal pain.  You are all so encouraging and understanding.  THANKYOU always, Janie.

JSNM, I started Voltaren drops yesterday, will see how they go and if I need to do your routine, I will, thankyou for explaining it.

Babs, yes please I would like the names of those products, just in case!  Thanks.
