Breast Cancer and RA? | Arthritis Information

Recently dx's with BC and had a bilateral mastectomy.
Trying to recover from that while flaring from RA (b/c i had to go off my meds for surgery) was NOT easy.
Thankfully i'm at the tail end of the surgical recovery but then WHAM chemo will start soon.
Just wasn't sure if there was anybody else out there to commiserate with ??
Lisa Hi Lizzy.. sorry to hear of your troubles....  I can't truly commiserate w/ the cancer, but there are lots of us who can commiserate about RA and going off meds..Sorry you have so much on your plate. Hope you feel better soon! I'm in a flare after going off meds too but that's my only problem so I'm not going to complain.

Lizzy, How awful for you. I am sorry you have cancer. I know everyone will feel the same for you. If you ever need anyone to talk to I would be happy to listen. Please know that there are people who care and want to offer support. Will you have to stay off your meds when you take your Chemo?

Hi Lisa, I'm truly sorry to hear about the diagnosis.  It's so difficult to go off our meds just for an infection or surgery, I can't imagine being off them for the length of time that you've done without.  Please keep us posted on your progress.  It's going to be a tough year for you but you know I think in some ways RA makes us tougher and better able to deal with what life throws our way.  I know I'm a lot tougher physically and mentally, but then maybe it's just my age.  Take care.  Lindy Tink-
My rheumy is adamant that I stay off Enbrel during chemo, but she did allow me to back on methotrexate and Voltaren so that has helped, but we'll see how that effects my blood work during chemo.
Thanks for your support,
LisaGOod luck.

Hi Lizzy,

Welcome to the boards.  I cannot share with you about the chemo but I sure can with the RA.  Best wishes to you and keep on posting!  Hiking_gal
Hello Lizzy,

I am so sorry for your troubles.  I also cannot give you answers about what to expect but will offer an ear when you need it.  All the best to you and good strength for your fight!
Hi Lizzy,

I went thru chemo in 2001 for BC.  From the first chemo, my RA  pain was gone!!   Don't know if it was from steroids or chemo, didn't care,  just knew that  not having to deal with RA pain during treatment was great.

Unfortunately, within a few months the pain was back.

Good luck with treatments!
