Methotrexate and hair loss | Arthritis Information

 

Anyone know if your hair thins while being on Methotrexate?  It seems like my hair is geting thinner and thinner as I stay on this Med.

Hey Ladybug, yes for some it does.  In my case, yes.  The folic acid is supposed to help with the side effects and there is another drug you can use instead of the folic acid but I don't know much about it...  Hope this helps and of course, talk to your doc. It sure did for me Me too.  I started taking Biotin when I was on MTX and it stopped the hair loss rather quickly.  You might give it a try.  I think I took 5 mg a day.  It's been a while since I was on MTX, so I'm not entirely sure of the dosage.ditto snow owlI just started biotin and am amazed at how fast it has worked for my nails and hair. yup hairloss - take 1 mg folic acid every day, including MTX day, and 50 mg. Leucovorin 8 - 12 hours after MTX dose.  The leucovorin definitely slowed the process down.  I also use Nioxin hair products.....they're for thinning hair.  It helps you keep what you have.  Good luck.Thanks everyone for the advice.  So do you get the Biotin over the counter or is it prescribe by the Dr.  Also does anyone get sick after the Methox inj?  I'm 12.5 mg of it and the day after I have been getting like nausead sick or I just feel awful. Yes the biotin is right in the drug store. I take pill form MTX- no tummy troubles.I was on MTX injection, just recently went off, and I did have nausea.  I eat ginger candy and drink ginger tea for this.  Are you on any additional drugs?  I know sometimes the NSADS can make your stomach upset as well.  I hope you are feeling better!
