Recently told me that the key to staying sane here and not getting involved in the pettiness here was to let things go where they may.   That's what I intend to do....

It kind of fits with my news year resolution to not argue with the nutcases

Wise words Lynn but sometimes we get drawn into them by trying to help others...Pettiness is different from defending yourself against bullies. Arguing with nutcases is a daily occurance when i go shopping .Then there's just good old debate. But I guess sometimes when someone can't defend their oft-presented point of view with science they just try to make it personal as a defensive measure. You're right, Lynn, that person is really not worth the time. I agree with you when it comes to being bullied.  That is a totally different thing!
I just refuse to get sucked into the pettiness and nastiness that sometimes happens here.....Not my thing, never has been.

I thought you liked posting here for discussion!  You post the same things you post here everyday on AF, so there must be reason you choose to duplicate.
Most of the AF people don't post or read here anymore and I would have no idea how many AI people read both forums.  I just want to make sure the information gets out to as many people as possible.............
I think that's a great idea! That would also cut down on you having to repost articles over and over.

Maybe you could start a blog for your daily posts (free on google) and just post links to each of your blog posts here.  That way, people could find the info but you could moderate the comments you don't like on your blog.

No thanks...I like things the way they are GOOD!!

*whew*

Lynn has always posted here, some of us have agreed to disagree, some of us are english, some american, some australian or new zealanders etc...Joonie is sometimes hysterically funny, a lot of us cry in frustration, we laugh at silly things, we share recipes, we share devastaing news , we share the same illnesses......and do you know what, does it matter that all this has happened?...................we are all still here chatting together, arguing a bit but still supporting each otherIt's okay Babs, I'm not going anywhere It just seems like Lynn gets so upset when anyone posts any article or study that questions the things she posts that she takes it as a persoanl attack r bullying, so maybe she would be happier posting them somewhere where she can control the comments, is all. Thanks for staying. Now if we could only get somebody else to leave,,,hhhmmmmWhy don't you move your AP marketing to a link and not bombard us with that?   Unbelievable that you all tolerate a person who doesn't not have RA (Suzanne) trying to limit information.

Lynn thank you for all your effort. It must take a lot of time and I know you are suffering terribly from hip pain.Bird Girrl2009-02-04 15:23:31Thanks for the info Lynn, I appreciate it!!
Why don't you move your AP marketing to a link and not bombard us with that?   Unbelievable that you all tolerate a person who doesn't not have RA (Suzanne) trying to limit information.

Well, that could be another approach. Maybe Lynn would be interested in posting all her Vitamin D articles on one thread, the way APers post their articles on one thread?

Does anybody remember on AF when Susanita used to publish all this cool research and people complained about the 'scary titles' (which were exactly what the aurthors used) and complained that it shouldn't be on that board?  Mind you, this was RA research on an RA board.  It was 'decided' that all the research should be posted in this other section but Nikkilynn refused to post her stuff there so the only research on AF was the press releases and astroturf that Nikki was posting.  Until Susanita got fed up and just continued posting her research.  And Susanita was a traditional meds person.

My point - some people feel a LOT more comfortable looking only at research that confirms their decision and DON'T WANT to be swayed by logic.

Pip
PS - Anna/Birdgirrl - since you have AS, don't you think you might be more comfortable posting on an AS board?  If Suzanne, a mother of a 5 year old little girl battling this disease, doesn't belong here - neither do you.

"My point - some people feel a LOT more comfortable looking only at research that confirms their decision and DON'T WANT to be swayed by logic."

If it's a post that differs from your opinion then it's not logical.  The post that the person agrees with isn't logical in your opinion.   I believe that's what you just posted.  Not sure that I understand why one post is logical and the other isn't or maybe I'm not reading your post correctly.

I don't care about AF and their posts but I do care about the posts on this forum.

As I stated in another thread there's plenty of room on this forum for all posts and forum members.  We should leave our personal opinions about a person and agendas off the forum.

Bickering about who posts what and why, doesn't add anything to the thread other than more hard feelings.  It doesn't add anything positive.  I could care less about who's doing what in the arthritis forums or what they've posted on the other forums.  I only care about how people are treated on this forum.

Lately, it's been bickering about the most inane subjects.  Who belongs here and who doesn't, why they're here, posts that don't agree with your opinion, personality confilicts, who has to  have the last word, and who's right and who's wrong.  I don't understand.  We're all here because we have a disease that turns our world upside down and inside out, we shouldn't do that to one another.
I have to go to bed, can't keep up with all of you, too many of you....I'm exhausted.   Nighty night.   Lindy

Lindy -

You're attempting to use logic, which as you can see from my post, most people could care less about.

Let's use a non-RA topic as an example.  Somebody is a bigot.  They are convinced that their way is the correct way and it doesn't matter if you want to enlighten them or show them the 'error of their ways'.  They will never see it because their mind is made up and this is how they think.  It's their core value.  You've dealt with people like that in your past...you know what I mean.  Unless something happens that tremendously effects their core value on some sort of basic/fundemental way...they are NEVER going to agree that they are a bigot.

Same thing with RA.  If you are 'convinced' that your way is the correct way...you will NEVER see the research that's placed right in front of you.  You can't because it would be too much of 'fear factor' that 'if you're wrong' etc.

How else does one explain some of the things we see here?  For example - not one of the Steroid D researchers that NikkiLynn posts is 'clean'.  There have been post after post of 'conflict of interest' and financial ties these guys have and articles about the money they stand to make the D levels are raised.  Articles about their ties to the Vitamin D Lobby or the Indoor Tanning Lobby.  If this was any other business, most people would be screaming conflict of interest and demanding their resignation (as in that one guy at BU losing his dermatology chair for his paid for by the tanning lobby research).  But because a few people are afraid of looking too closely at what this means to their health if the anti-D people are right, they praise this crappy-paid-for research as being somehow better than it is.

Get this - most of the (accused) anti-D people have posted continuously that they are not anti-Steroid D and are on the fence.  But the pro-Steroid D people do not seem to be able to wrap their heads around the idea that bought and paid for research might NOT be in their best interests.

As for the 'who belongs here and who doesn't' - I just find Anna tiring for constantly hitting at Suzanne for voicing her (reasonable) opinions - and who's husband is on D per his doctors' orders.  It just shows the kind of person Anna is - a non-RA peep hitting at the mom of an RA Kid.  THAT's just priceless.

Thanks 6t5frlane, Babs, Mrs. Pincushion, Bird Girrl, Reegie and Lindy for your posts.  I really appreciated them.

I'm glad your find the info I post interesting and useful you betcha  ;)

and LinB.. I couldn't understand that either, and thanks for making that logical point...  It's all logical.. depending on who's reading....  Logical does not equal "correct"
Why don't you move your AP marketing to a link and not bombard us with that?   Unbelievable that you all tolerate a person who doesn't not have RA (Suzanne) trying to limit information.

????????????????????????

Examples, please.

Maybe I do have RA, Anna.  There have been a lot informative posts saying it is genetic.  Do you read those?

Frankly, Lynn should be happy when I post to her threads because they get way more hits.  When there is nothing to comment on, Babs thanks her for posting it to bump it, then she thanks Babs for thanking her to bump it again, then it drops off.  The same posts on AF drop off the same day usually.

Once a discussion begins, more information usually ends up on the table.  That's a good thing to me, unless you are only open to limited information.

To each his own, but please do not accuse me of trying limit information unless you can back it up.  Thank you.

ETA two words I left out.
