how to keep a job with RA | Arthritis Information

I need advice about working and how you all are able to do it with RA.  Either flares or now on Enbrel lots of colds and flus.  I miss work and it isn't understood by the employer.  They need someone there, I understand that.  I just don't know how to navigate around this problem.  I need to work.   Hi Shellsarin..   Welcome

Did you just start this position? or have you worked for this company for awhile?
I've been in my industry for 15 years and this position for 6.... I have accumulated some great time off with good negotiations when I was applying to this corporation.  That has actually saved me some major headaches!!
Can you ever work from home?  is that sometimes an option for you?
Can you work more hours when you feel well and less when you're having a tough time of it?
I feel for you, because I do believe that if I wasn't so fortunate in my current position I would be concerned as well.

Shellsarin...I unfortunately had to give up work but so many do carry on and manage quite well...Have you spoken to your employer( not always a good idea if they are not approachable) Also speak to your Rheumatologist, maybe there something he can give you to help you through the rough times. Thank you for your reply.  I had to quit my massage therapist job, or career, that I had for 9 years when RA started.  I thought that I could find a desk job and be able to work that way so I did and while trying all the drugs and tricks with my rhuemy I missed work there and couldn't keep it up.  I am now at another job and have Enbrel controling the actual pain but I get so many colds and flus and miss days and don't have time accrued to have sick days.   It has been unfortunate timing...well, this RA is unfortunate all around.  I wish I could work from home but I don't know what to do?  Welcome Shellsarin.  I am sorry you are having so much trouble.  I can't answer your question because I am on disability but I know there are some on this board who do work.  Just dealing with this disease is hard enough but throwing in work and kids and spouses... life stuff... it can quickly be overwhelming.  I know someone else will share their coping skills as far as working goes, I can only share my ear.
Thank you for your ears and support.  This is the first message board I've been on.  I know, huh, life stuff is hard but add the body on the life and whew it can be a real challenge!
