Does anyone have any special plans this year? It falls on a Saturday this year which is nice. I know we will do an early dinner out because we have to pick my son up from work at 4. I guess it will actually be a late lunch. We usually just do cards- no gifts. Some years he has sent me roses to the office but I finally told him- it's a very nice gesture but roses in February have such an inflated price I just can't see spending the money. (I see it when I pay the Visa bill- LOL)

My son is getting married on Valentines Day!

I posted before about my dress being Tea length.....and wondering if I could wear color coordinating Crocs....maybe I could glue sparkles or feathers on them....you know BEDAZZLE THEM!

I am making a joke of course, but I am concerned about the shoe thing. I might look for a pair of satin type ballet shoe, but the shoes I have to actually go with the dress are beautiful, but the heal is in question at this time. I love shoes. They just don't love me right now.

As far as gifts, we give cards to each other, then do dinner and my DH knows I love candy over flowers.

We are headed off on a ski trip on Valentines day!  I can't wait.  We usually do cards, candy, flowers, gifts, you name it...kiddos too.  I did say no flowers since we are leaving, although in years past I put them in the fridge and they were perfect when we got back.
When my DD was married two years ago.. I had GORGEOUS shoes for the ceremony, and cocktail hour.. then changed into satin ballet slippers for the reception... I felt better.. and still looked good!

I have a wedding coming in a year... I'll be shopping for months to find what works best for me....

ENJOY!!!

for Valentines weekend... My husband will be home from business travel for two weeks.. so THAT is wonderful to look forward to... I will babysit my grandson on Friday or Sat nite and DH and I will go out the other weekend night.  It is also my Dad's 74th b/day and we'll celebrate w/ siblings and my kids and other grandkids at my house on Sunday... It's rare that he is in town for his b/day so we'll make this one special....  so.....  I have a busy time ahead!!!
I have a friend whose birthday is Valentine's Day.  Always a big birthday/Valentine's Day party.St. Valentine’s Day is always special at our home. It is the day that mundoeon proposed to me and I accepted. The proposal was in a very public place and mudoeon actually bent at the knee to present me with a lovely ring. This verbal and physical tribute was totally unexpected and I was speechless for more than a moment.

Thus, each St. Valentine’s is THE holiday, celebrated with flowers, renewed declarations of faithful devotion, special culinary treats (including a heart-shaped fudge cake with hot fudge ‘frosting’), and a day of other physical indulgences.
Lots of great things going on!

Much love to you all!
This year there's a community Valentine's day party at the pool.  We'll go to that and then have our own little personal valentine's party when we come home.  It will involve chocolate, wine, and kisses.....................................................................We are going to Paris for the weekend, its only a quick flight for us...I havent been for years so i really am looking forward to it   Being pregnant and having two little guys at home (no one seems to want to babysit on Valentines Day, I don't know why?!) we will probably be at home.  But I am enjoying reading about everything you all get to do.  I hope you all have a great day!

Aw, I bet you get some sweet little homemade cards from your little ones that you'll save forever :)  That sounds pretty good too.

How are the bridal shower plans going?
Ok Paris for Valentines day could be cancelled...we are on a weather watch and darn this RA I am now not walking too well, sitting too well and it all hurts so badly. My iron levels have dropped to 3 again ....but Valentines in London is just as good...its who you spend it with , not where......( ah...the eifel tower....)Awww Lisa, I hope you feel better and get to make it to gay Paree! Just love that city but last time we were there we spent 1/2 the time in bed with a nasty flu'.

And aint' love grand?

I have a wedding to cater on the 14th, for a secondtime around couple. He is 78 and she is 57, both in a jazz band together.

Hope everyone gets to spend some time with those they love.

That sounds lovely,  78 and second time around...should be good!!! Hope you do get to spend some time with your man

Hi all,

Everyone sounds like they will have a nice time doing their thing on Valentines Day!

I spent the day on wedding event planningand then I went to my future daughter in-laws wedding shower at the church. We had a very nice time. We played a game where you have a group of 4, you pick a person from your group to be the "bride" then you design and dress her in a original wedding gown made with toilet paper. It was a HOOT. After the time was up the brides modeled the gowns and someone from the group got to describe the creation. So very funny. It was a long day but it was fun. Although I am glad to be home, feet up on the couch.

I married my man 5 years ago and he was my boyfriend (  lol...I feel all coy using that word!) when we were 18. We have done the big circle and its wonderful. Having your Dad doing the same thing at his age is even more wonderful.

So the wedding I catered is done, its 1/2 hr until Valentines Day disappears for another year and my man kinda forgot about it.  And thats OK. It really is...but I'll probably 'forget' his birthday in a few months time.

The couple who were married at our venue today had such a wonderful time with extended family and all their friends. The lady involved is in her 60's and is a Jazz singer, he is in his 70's and you would never believe it! They had a simple ceremony (being 2nd time around for both and she did forgo a veil..lol) and the after party was full of Maori song (she is part Maori) and Jazz. Sarah Vaughn would have been proud.

I have creamed many brandy snaps, chocolate dipped so many strawberries, moussed so many mud cakes, lemon curded so many meringues, passionfruited so many tartlets, baked so many cheesecakes. Made piles of Bombay Wraps, Nigella's Avocado/Blue Cheese dips, roasted Rumps of Beef, glazed champagne ham, poached fresh salmon, made 6 different salads, herb buttered Jersey Benne potatos, made oven roasted ratatouille,  etc etc.
With help I must add.

Im now at home with a plate of Baked Beans on toast.

Pinnie will understand.

Have a great Valentines Day peeps..mine is done in 12 minutes.

ETA: I had doubled up on a sentence. Its gone now but how I did that is a mystery. Hmmmm.
LyndeeNZ2009-02-14 03:52:42Gee, Lyndeenz, you made me hungry with that list of your catering creations.

Here it is Valentine's day. My darling husband and I will make a meal tonight after I get home from work, steak, spinach, sauteed mushrooms and a loaf of rosemary bread I got at the store. For dessert, lemon pudding cake. Hope I returned the favor and made you hungry too!I have to tell you Bluehour, ANYTHING is better than canned baked beans at midnight when you are not even a tad pissed ...

And yep, your dinner sounds great and I hope you have a lovely evening full of

Lyn  Happy Valentines Day! My husband and I went out last night to a really great resturant and they had a live band.....we had the best meal in years and had several drinks. Watched everyone dancing...that was fun. Neither of us wanted to dance. WE're not big dancers.....don't really know how to dance the way these folks were dancing; but it looked fun and we had a lot of fun watching.

Lovie's been out of town all week and he came home with a dozen roses which was romatic and very sweet. Today's we're going to get me a new car! My tahoe is shot and we want to trade it in before it loses anymore value. It needs a lot of work done to it but they still willing to give us ,000 for it. We figured we better jump on it now. We hadn't really planned to buy a car today; but I'm excited anyway. It's raining here though and my back is killing me! I'm determined to enjoy the day though.

Happy Valentines day everyone.
Lovie..

and I hope you get that new car!! What a man you have there.
Trade????  I did get a new car. I got an 06 Envoy Denali. I really love it. It's smaller than the Tahhoe....and doesn't have the third seat. I don't really need as much passenger room as I needed a few years ago now that my oldest is driving and lives away from home. I've never really been a fan of the smaller SUV's but this one is really nice. WE have to take it back to the dealership though. We noticed a couple of problems when we had a change to drive it a while. They promised to make it right though....so I've got my fingers crossed that there just minor nitches and we won't have to choose something else; which we have the option to do for 5 days.I had a wonderful Valentine's Day, even though I cooked all day - one of my favorite things to do because of having the outdoor kitchen.  I spent all day chopping.  I made a fresh pasta sauce with tomatoes, mandarins and shrimp, salad, homemade rosemary bread and strawberries and cream for desert.  There were 8 or us for dinner.  Delicious but I'm tired today.  With all the preparation Stan and I forgot to celebrate Valentine's Day!!  Maybe next year.

Lovie, your dinner and evening sounded lovely and I especially like the new car part.  Lindy
Snow, thanks.  I sure could have used the hot tub after cooking all day!!  We have a new Chinese restaurant that just opened.  The last time we had Chinese food in Mexico it definately had a Mexican flair to it.  I'm hoping the new place will be more traditional Chinese.  We'll see.  Lindy
Snow, thanks.  I sure could have used the hot tub after cooking all day!!  We have a new Chinese restaurant that just opened.  The last time we had Chinese food in Mexico it definately had a Mexican flair to it.  I'm hoping the new place will be more traditional Chinese.  We'll see.  Lindy
LOLOL...well when I lived in Italy, a Chinese Restaurant opened about 40 kms from us and I was determined to get there ASAP.  The menu had all the things I was familiar with and I ordered 3 different dishes. The only thing put in front of me WITHOUT olives was the fried rice.

Hello,

My son's wedding was beautiful. Everything went so well. The bride was stunning. She looked like she should be on top of a wedding cake! Or on a wedding card. It has been the longest week I have had in a long time. All my guest left today and we went to the Brides parents home and watched them open all the gifts. It was so nice. I am however glad it is all over. I haven't read any post all week, but I hope everyone is well and their Valentines Day was wonderful.

Take care,

Tink

Hi Tink, I thought about you on Valentine's day, so glad that you had a wonderful time.  We want pics.  Did you find shoes to wear?  Lindy

LinB,
It was wonderful. So sweet of you to think of me! I wore my beautiful shoes, then slipped them off at the reception, lights were low and by then I didn't care! I will post pictures as soon as I get some. I didn't take any with my camera, but I hope someone will e-mail me that did. I do not have a scanner, but maybe the kids will get a disc from their photographer.
