Life with RA seems like an impossible journey at times, a never ending struggle against insurmountable odds.  It's not fair.  We feel the burden of endless pain and fatigue.  Depression can come...and go.  Where there once was darkness, light appears and chases away the shadows of despair.  It's not easy but we persist and claim victories, find extraordinary joy among sorrow, a flush of ecstasy in an unexpected touch of someone we love so deeply it hurts, hope that nurtures our hearts.  Yes, it is indeed quite a journey...

The Journey

By Alan Duncan

Rain splatters on dusty trails,

Muddy footprints wander through black spells

Cast by evil spirits lurking behind

Veils of darkness spun by oppressed minds.

A cry of anguish illuminates the night,

Bursts of laughter fringed by fright,

Shrieking of lost opportunities,

Sucked into the depths of an inky black sea.

Silence, then whispering of angels wings

Stirred the air with hope that brings

Remembrance of a faded existence,

A house behind a broken white fence.

Where a child lived and grew strong

Till the wind shifted, choices gone wrong,

And a life withered, sucked dry

Like bleached bones beneath a desert sky.

Memories that can’t die bring life

In the midst of never ending strife.

The muddy trail dries in the sun’s light

As evening fades to a moonlit night.

May your journey lead you to peace!

Alan, you are beautiful. Beautiful prose, Alan. Good on you Alan for putting your heart and soul out there instead of your ego.
Heart and soul are leading lights whilst ego's can be our undermining.

Two trees has ground to a halt as the brain is just not with it.
Loved it!I like the concept of the journey.   Sounds like an adventure.
