OT: My cat is... | Arthritis Information

Abbi-Kitty is in heat. She has been walking around for the last couple of days meowing for no reason. She is also rolling over on her back and loving the floor. And she keeps poking her booty up for all to see.

My daughter thinks Abbi-Kitty is sick. I tried to tell her that she is just waiting for a boy kitty. Daughter said for me to let her have a boy kitty. I told daughter, no we do not want baby kitties. daughter thinks that baby kitties are the way to go

How long will my cat be in heat?
joonie2009-02-06 05:49:02A few days to a week at a time, and it will happen every month or two until winter.  She won't stop going into heat then, but it will become less frequent (at least for a little while).

Our young cat is also hunting for a husband right now.  She was quiet for 3 months straight - now she's making up for lost time.  I need to make an appointment with the vet to get her tuned up. Hummm... will have to look into getting her fixed. I always feel bad about getting them fixed. She has not tried to run out of the house yet. She just stays in the livingroom and kitchen and diningroom meowing and sleeping with daughter.

Actually it is kidna weird to hear her meow so much. Before it was a meow here and a meow there. Nothing like this. I use to think she did not know how to meow. Until one morning she was out of food, and wanted me to know it LOL!

The boy kitty is right outside though. He was serenading her yesterday morning, outside my window. I do not hear him this morning, but I know she knows he is out there listening to her do her siren.
joonie2009-02-06 06:25:17My cat is 12. She is doing the same thing. She has been fixed since she was 6 months old. Does anyone else have this problem? I have heard that sometimes they don't take out everything by accident and they still have heat cycles. My husband cannot stand to hear a cat meow so this is causing great problems.Snow-Good one!

Joonie-you really should get her fixed.  She will be happier and healthier, plus you might want to do it soon before she figures out how to spray.  That would not be good...eww!
Wannabe, your cat's 12 years old?  Maybe she's entering into meno-paws.  Sorry, couldn't resist...
Have you had your cat checked out, wantto? it could be something else..??

UGH..  I feel for you joonie.... cats in heat are disturbing to me... to hear them and not be able to help.

I have all my critters neutered except my big Ole Irish Wolfhound.. We got him at 130 lbs and full grown...  I wasn't doing that then...
That was funny Sno!

The problem is she is only "talkative" periodically. It drives my husband crazy because she especially likes to be "talkative" at 4 AM outside of our bedroom door.

I'm pretty sure it's a false heat cycle because she exhibits the same types of behavior and has been caught humping blankets   The husband has come down with a case of man-flu and the cat calls were about to send him over the edge.
I love cats but a whining, caterwauling female cat in heat would send me over the edge under the best of circumstances.   I'd probably find myself prowling the neighborhood carrying ladykitty in a grocery sack, yodelling, Heeere Tomcat Tomcat Tomcat, if I hadn't had our female cats neutered.

LOL - I gotta admit it's funny as hell watching her writhe on the floor like a two-dollar whore, moaning like she's in a kitty pron movie.

She did, however, came and jumped on hubby's lap as soon as he sat down when he came home. Heck, she did not even wait until his butt hit the couch, she was already in the air and in his lap. He pet her and all... and then we had to go to town. So... she is in daughters room sleeping when we got home. And daughter has her again petting her and talking to her.

I have a little mutt, she is fixed and is 5 years old, but she has a favorite Bee ( stuffed of course). She will put the Bee on the bed and get in front of the dresser mirror, and well you know do her thing. It is almost embarrassing the way she likes to "watch". You would think she wouldn't do that since she was fixed. After she is done, she holds the bees nose in her mouth for hours. Very strange behavior , but I let her have her fling now and then with Mr. Bee.

joonie,

Kittens would sweet. Your daughter would be thrilled. lol

sTinkerBell2009-02-06 21:00:39Hahaha, tink! That reminded me of my mom's dog. She has a little deer chihuahua that my sister got her when she got out of the hospital after her bypass surgery to keep her company.

Well... we were visiting my mom and one of her pillows fell into the floor. Her puppy jumped down and started going to town on the pillow. My mom said that was the first time she seen him do that and that she thought he was a bit young. I think he is only 7 months old.

Anyways... we were sitting there laughing until we cried about him doing that. We did not stop him, we just laughed. And then my mom said go tell your sister about what her dog is doing. So... I went out to the living room and told my sister. She came to moms room and my hubby threw the pillow back into the floor and he jumped down and went to work. My sister was grossed out LOL! She said what did you do to him? I was like nothing, he just started doing it when mom dropped her pillow in the floor.

Now, they keep all pillows and stuffed animals off the floor. LOL!
My goodness what a topic for a thread, but it seems we all have stories, don't we?  LOL

I used to have a male sheltie that was neutered when he six months old.  Years later I also had a female toy fox terrier who went into heat.  I didn't worry, because my male dog had been neutered.  Well wouldn't you know it, the dogs ended up stuck together, with my young son screaming "what are they doing????".

I called the vet and said, "Uh, can a dog's testicles grow back?" He laughed hysterically at me.  Then I told him what was happening as I spoke.  To make a long story short, I took my  male dog in and they did some blood work on him and discovered that the vet who did his surgery didn't go up inside to get his undescended testicle!  The vet said that the heat inside his body would kill the sperm and make him sterile, so in a way, he had the best of both worlds!  He could still get it on, but not get his lady pregnant!  I know my female dog seemed very happy with the arrangement!
