Do Dr's really know best? | Arthritis Information

Thought I'd share an interesting visit I had today.

That stinks, I would definately call back on Monday and let your RD know what happened.  Sorry to hear your neck is hurting you I hope you find some sort of relief before the weekend is over.

THANKS REEGIE   I plan on "venting" when I see my normal RA dr. next week. I also have a herniated disk i'm getting surgery for in 2 weeks, so this was all so frustrating! I have to laugh about it...okay...maybe a little later... What's an ARNP?

well...No.. they don't always know best!!

I always think we should error on the side of caution.. if an assistant had said to me to take advil...I would have said...but, I take Oxaprozin!!  I think you should say to your RD that the assistant needs to look at the chart of someone she/he's not familiar with... and not assume anything!!   No one is perfect and we know ourselves and our meds better than anyone else...  I always ask.. does that interact with:  blahblahblah..

I am so sorry your neck is hurting...  I hope you've found relief!!
Hope your neck is feeling much better today.

I don't think some of them know what the hell they're talking about. Who is she to tell you that you don't have RA? And then to dismiss your pain so easily. She's absolutely clueless!
I have a freind that has bulging discs, spinal stenosis and bone spurs all in her cervical spine.  I've seen the pain it causes for her, so my heart goes out to you Klynn.  I hope you can get some relief.Klynn, isn't that just the pitts!!!  I have had that happen with rotten docs, then I get all ticked at myself because I wasn't quick enough to say "WHAT THE HELL!!!???"   OMG, that sounds like malpractice to me. You should definitely tell your RD - they need to know how clueless the assistant is. klynn-

I was scheduled for back surgery for herniated disc by well-known back surgeon.  Read Healing Back Pain by John Sarno, M.D.. NYU, cancelled, have been O.K.

Doctors disagree.
Jan Lucinda-

speaking of surgery , I have a surgery scheduled for a herniated disk in 2 weeks(L-5, S1). I will go read "Healing back pain by John Sarno". Thanks for the info... My right leg is week and foot numb for about a month now, they said its a large herniated disk.  Can I ask you about your back? How long were you in pain, how long you've had it, etc?

Necks better today...I will definatly say something at my next visit...if anyone knows of a good RA dr. near Seattle, please email me, I'd love to find someone new.

Thanks for your posts! bumpCould you leave a message to have the RA dr call you?  Even if that dr has a bad staff that dr is responsible for what they suggest.  I don't trust much of what any of them say.  I have no trust in tany hem at all.  It is all from past experiences.  Hate to be negative but it is kinda like defensive driving---defensive medical advice!

I think it would be best to call the Doctors office and make an appointment to see the Doctor, I would voice my concerns when you call, please try to discuss this with the doctor or even the assistant. ASK them to clarify what they have told you. tell them how you feel.

I am not saying that this person was not out of line, but you might get a better response a second time.

My DH is a Dentist, I stay out of his business for the most part, but I know he has over the years had to re -explain to a patient a procedure or a treatment.

He needs reminded sometimes that just because he understands what he is doing, and it may be routine for him, that it is not always clear to a patient, nor is it routine for them, therefore further explanation is necessary.

One thing I can say he is never RUDE to his patience. There is no reason for that type of behavior EVER.

So sorry you were left feeling so insulted and still in pain. Please give it another go. I would say if you are not satisfied, find another Doctor. I will agree some Doctors I wouldn't go to because they have nasty attitudes and huge egos.

How frustrating! Sorry you are feeling so lousy and hope you feel better soon.
