Someone, maybe Kelstev, was talking about skype a few months back.  Well, My DIL got it, my son in Iraq got it and I got it too!  I got to see and talk with my son yesterday, and a couple days before that, I got to watch my DIL feed and bathe my grandaughter.  My son in Afghanistan can't get it yet, too remote, but it seems like the future is here so who knows what's around the corner?  When I was a kid they said we'd be zooming around in jetpacks by now.  That would have been pretty sweet.  But I like this better.Hi Linda, Skype is wonderful and cheap.  Glad you were able to get it.  Our cell service doesn't work here in Mexico, so we put it to sleep for the six months that we're here and we have Skype and use it frequently to keep in touch.  In fact we use it more in the U.S. than our cells.  Love my Skype.  LindyWas it you that was telling me about it?  If yes, sorry I mixed it  up!Linncn-

Sounds like a great way to stay in touch with the troops.  Wow.
Thanks to you and your sons for their service to our country. Thanks Blue :)  I will pass that along to my sons and they will thank you right back for your support. We have an SMC VOIP phone which plugs right into a network jack on our broadband router and is optimized for Skype.  It doesn't have video capabilities, but it also does not require a computer.  The phone is capable of handling traditional land-line phone duties too, but since we don't carry land-line service we've never used that part.

please forgive my ignorance, but what is it???????
please forgive my ignorance, but what is it???????
oh that's awesome!
thanks! That's great.. I have friends in Europe who have it, but I've heard it leaves alot to be desired..that the pic and the words cut out?

I hope what I've heard is wrong... because it seems to be a great thing!!!

Yes, thanks to your boys, Linncn~!!
Well, the pic and the words aren't really in sync...still very worth it.  It's good to see his face even if the timing is off a bit.  And again on both my sons behalf, thanks for your support Babs.Bab, I don't have the pic option.  The voice transmission is fine.  We call everywhere.  If there's a bad storm in the area of you're calling from or where you're calling  their might be some interference but for 2 cents a minute I can handle a few garbled words every so often.  It's really cheap and handy.  Lindy
Thanks to you and your sons for their service to our country.
Yes Bluehour I would like to second this, and Linncn my husband (a disabled marine) and my children thank your family also.
That's great.. I have friends in Europe who have it, but I've heard it leaves alot to be desired..that the pic and the words cut out?

Tell them Thanks!
Joonie, Reegiie, thanks, I'll pass that along!  And Reegie, thanks to you and your fam too.  You military wives make a huge sacrifice.  I know that for my sons, their wives support, positive attitude and ability to "hold down the fort", and so much more than that, is what keeps them going while they are deployed.  And you all do that while being a mom and a dad back home, sometimes far away from any family and most of your friends are transient cause they're in the military too.  And then add to that a lot of lonely nights, a knot in your belly, and not a ton of money to make those ends meet.  I could go on and on about the sacrifice you make because I see my DIL'make it everyday.  Yeah, you guys deserve the same thanks we give to our troops.  So, thank you.Thank you also!Linncn, how wonderful to be able to see your son again!!!  I hope it gets to the one in Afghanistan soon!!!   It is Waddie!  But the truely great thing about it is that Patrick is now able to interact daily with his wife and new baby.  He'll be able to see all of little Maya's milestones as they happen and she'll be able to see and hear her daddy everyday.   Of course it isn't the same as in person, but it's as good as it gets under the circumstances.Any recent views?
