Just to say hi and I am home from the hospital... | Arthritis Information

Well,

Yes, they admitted me. I just got home. I am still very swollen.  they don't seem to be able to control the swelling.  they wanted to give me another kidney biopsy.  the fix seems to be more steroids and/or another chemotherapy drug.  they feel I now have mixed connective tissue disease instead of just the RA since I have so many other symptoms pertaining to other immune disorders --  lupus and sjogrens.  I am very disappointed at the lack of options and feel I have wasted a lot of time just to be comfortable, pain-free and lead a normal life.  I am very tired of the pain, swelling, and new diagnoses, etc, etc. but at the same time I am doing what I can to keep the spirits up and be as happy as I can be.

I have agreed to go back and do the biopsies so that I know I am doing all I can to help myself. but at some point enough is enough with the biopsies.  I am hoping for a miracle that my creatinine and kidney function tests will have returned to normal and it was all a false alarm.

I have been placed on a renal diet and told to not overdo it with the potassium.  I didn't realize potassium was in so many foods, and placed on a low sodium diet.

thank you for the prayers and well wishes.

take care.

I missed all of this but I wanted to say that you will be in my prayers!

Hi Shelly,

I missed your earlier posts too.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Hiking_gal

Shelly, so sorry to hear of the added burdens of more diagnoses which you do not want to hear!  But sometimes figuring things out is the beginning of treatment.  I always want to know what I'm up against.  Don't give up, like Winston Churchill said, "If you're going through hell, keep going."  Since being diagnosed with RA he is my favorite source of inspiration.

Shelly, prayers headed your way. Praying for your miracle...and for strength to get you through this rough patch. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. So sorry you're having such a rough time right no, Shelley...hope things get better soon for you!Shelly, so sorry that you've had to go through all this.  But like others have said, it's better to know what the matter is so you can know how to begin dealing with it.  I will pray for a good result on your biopsy, peace for you in all of this, and wisdom and insight for your doctors.

Blue~ I like that quote.  Thanks for posting it.
Prayers for you.Hugs to you Shelly

So sorry things are this rough.  Trust your instincts and listen to your heart.  If you don't feel comfortable with the answers you are being given, go find new answers.
Wishing you well. I truly hope they get to the bottom of your health issues and are able to enjoy a speedy recovery.

Thank you everyone,
I am always touched by your outpour of prayers and well wishes, not just to me but to everyone.  It is just so uplifting to witness and be apart of.

Thank you all so much.

Bluehour, thanks so much for the quote. A smart man and funny man, Winston Churchill.  I will hang onto this quote as well.:)

Hi Shelly, glad to see you posting.  I'm so sorry about the health issues.  Sometimes it takes forever to get a diagnosis.  I hope that treatment is helpful.  Will be sending you my good thoughts.  Lindy

Thanks Lindy,

Yes, it is good to be posting as well, better than lying in a hospital bed with the daily rounds of blood tests and all the other tests that's for sure. thanks for good thoughts sent my way.  i could sure use those.  I hope all is well. take care.
Hi Shelly,
Add me to the list of well-wishers! I hope and pray you get well soon.
take care
LOL!  SnowOwl,
thanks, good to "see" you too.:)
I have been placed on low sodium before, yes.  I have been eating saltless food for a month or so.  I was told on the last hospital stay to not go out of my way to avoid potassium but to be mindful.  but this time around I was given a list of foods high in potassium.  A lot of foods I love were there even healthy ones like sweet potatoes.  It tells you how many ounces you can eat and how often a week you can eat them.  the fluid stays regardless of salt intake.  I am very dehydrated because the fluid just goes straight to my tissues and under the skin, not inside the vessels where the body can use it.
No, I am not receiving any nutritional counseling other than the list and I suppose that is all they can do in that amount of time, but i am going to take it upon myself to learn more about nutrition and health.
I have always felt diet is key however, it is more than just the RA diet, eat right for your type diet, etc.  I never would have thought potassium could be bad for certain health issues. so things like that i need to learn more about.
thanks, hope all is well, take care.:)

(((CinDee)))

Thank you.

No time for lying in a hospital bed.  Life is short enough as it is.  I definitely believe in the power of prayer and positive thoughts, so thanks.

Hope all is well, take care.

Much hugs & prayers.

Please keep us posted.
Hi Shelly, hugs, hugs and more hugs and of course prayers, keep your chin up, love Janie.xx Shelly - lots of prayers and huggles - you sound good, and you are right, diet is key.  Keep up the good work.  Shelly, I too am so sorry for all your worries.  I also had no idea about the potassium thing, interesting.  I do believe diet is the best way to "reset" things.

I am thinking the best thoughts for you and loudly humming for you too!

Shelly I am really sorry to hear you have been in hospital, I must have missed your post. I hope they get things sorted out for you . I too am having kidney problems and have to go for a colonoscopy next month. I have never thought about how much potassium is in the food we eat. You are in my thoughts and prayers

Hi

Joonie, Janie, Justsaynomore, Waddie, Mrs. Pin,

Thanks again to you all.  The well wishes and prayers mean a lot to me and give me a lot of strength to make it through these rough spots.  I know many of you are experiencing some really rough spots of your own lately and all of you are in my prayers as well.  Many blessings.  take care.

Mrs. Pin,

Sorry to hear you too are having kidney problems as well.  are you experiencing the swelling also?  The swelling can be overwhelming fifteen pounds in a day or two and the concern for skin breakdown.

Well, I am really looking forward to better health this new year with the power of prayer, mind over matter, positive thinking and all of that for a healthier new year for all of us here.

take care.
