Update | Arthritis Information

Well, I spent last week in hospital trying to get my pain levels under control.   No wonder I have been having so much pain lately.  Ever since I tripped about 4 weeks ago, the pain has been uncontrollable.

It was a nice stay, very restful.
I will now be having a hip replacement in about 4-5 weeks.  I can get through because I know there is an end in sight.  I have moved on from one walking stick to two and now to crutches.  I can stand/walk for about 3-4 minutes before the pain becomes unbearable.  It was unrealistic to keep upping the Oxycontin and Endone as it was going up very quickly and even then not having a lot of effect.  So I get a new joint.  I have a few weeks to get things in order and prepare myself (and the house) for hazards.  I bought myself a pair of crutches today.  They were to buy or a week to hire.  This way I can pretty them up with rhinestones and keep them.
Anyway, thats my update.
Cheers.
Hi Pam. Sorry you have been in so much pain, We do tend to keep up our pain meds but as you say a bit unrealistic to keep doing it and then a more drastic step has to be taken but Im sure with your hip replacement you will be so much better and a good idea to get your home sorted before the op as then you know you arent going to trip over something. Thinking of you.I am sorry to hear you have been in soo much pain. I hope the surgery helps with your pain and makes you feel better.

Much hugs and prayers your way.

Please keep us posted and let us know when you go in for surgery.
Pam, glad to hear you got some answers and a plan.  And an end in sight for the pain.  October to February is not very long, so thanks for the reminder on how fast this disease can work.  Let us know how it goes.  CathyPam. Sorry you're having so much discomfort..

I hope the surgery helps.  My dad just had his hip replaced last May. He was in excruciating pain - bone on bone like you.  Now, he feels tremendous!!  He has such better spirits in all aspects of his life... He's even taking my stepmom dancing!!!

Best to you.

thanks everybody for your thoughts.

jsnm, it wasn't so much the RA that has done this but the OA.  I think when you have the 'Dynamic Duo' things tend to break down much more quickly.

I'm actually looking forward to my surgery, things can only get betterBest of luck to you Pam! We'll be pulling for you. Keep us updated! [QUOTE=pammy416]

I wish you success on your up coming surgery. You will have recovery pain, but the new joint...It be pain free. Good for you, and best of luck!
Thanks again for the kind thoughts and words everyone.  I went back to work today and it felt good to have something to do.  The pain hasn't been quite as severe as the last few weeks so maybe the cortisone is working.   I had some fun tonight decorating my crutches.  I'll post a photo when I'm doneI am dying to see a photo of the crutches., I decorated mine last xmas with battery operated twinkle lights and self adhesive sequins..lol...It makes using them a lot more fun.
Glad that you are so upbeat Pam

These are my fancy crutches....I like to  personalize thingswow... they look wonderful Pam!!  You did a fine job... Great job, Pammy!  I am glad to hear you are getting some relief with the pred. too!   nice bling.....I hope your surgery goes well and you come out singing. I have an 85 year old friend that had her knees done and she wished she did it years ago. She said she felt wonderful as soon as she woke up. I wish the same for you.
