Kadian - anyone use it? | Arthritis Information

My brother just got put on Kadian, which is an extended-release morphine capsule.  So far, it has given him good pain relief, but it's making him quite sick to his stomach.  I've only had morphine a few times, for post-op pain control, and it's always made me hurl.  How long does it take for the nausea to go away if you take it every day? For me, it doesn't matter how long I've taken a pain med, it still makes me sick to my stomach...the only thing that works for me is to take 2 antacid as soon as I feel my tummy feeling sick.  Seems to always work for me...before trying this, I was always vomiting after I took pain medication.I never heard of it. My brother was just prescribed the morphine lollipop.  I think it makes him nutsy. He called my mom and told her all kinds of things an 80 year old woman doesn't need to worry herself about...I have never had any problem with morphine ( prob. the only med I havent) I was given morphine in the hospital last month when i went in for pains in my spine area. It has made my husband really sick but that was also for post opI've been on Kadian for almost 2 years. It works great. The nausea went away after about a week. Good luck to your brother. I avoid morphine..   many in my family don't take to it well.....  BP bottoms out and fainting occurs........  [QUOTE=LarsThorwald]I've been on Kadian for almost 2 years. It works great. Glad to hear it works so well for you!  I've advised my brother to try to ride out the nausea.  He says it did provide good pain relief.
