Interesting article I found over here:

Korea Team Finds Hope for Rheumatoid Arthritis
A Korean research team says it has identified the cause of rheumatoid arthritis and developed a substance that could help treat the disease. The team, led by Prof. Kim Wan-uk of Catholic University, on Monday said it established through experiments on mice that placenta growth factor is the main substance causing rheumatoid arthritis. PIGF is a type of protein crucial in delivering oxygen and nutrients to the fetus in its mother's womb. It disappears when the baby is born, but when a person contracts diseases such as cancer and rheumatism, it reappears.

The research was published in the February edition of the Arthritis and Rheumatism, one of the most prestigious academic journals in the field of rheumatism.

The researchers proved the relationship between rheumatoid arthritis and PIGF by genetically engineering mice without PIGF, which had a nearly zero rate of the disease. The research team also developed a candidate substance that could be used to treat it, confirming what it said was a dramatic reduction of symptoms when it injected a new peptide that suppresses PIGF action into mice with rheumatoid arthritis.

"The existing treatments for rheumatoid arthritis have side effects of disrupting the natural immune system of the body," Kim said. "But the discovery of this novel peptide could lead to development of a new treatment that removes the cause of the disease. We plan to carry out a clinical trial on rheumatoid arthritis patients within three to four years."

Isn't it great, every country is working on finding possible cures.  I don't think this board is to interested in these kinds of things judging from the responses. LOL

:)
You know what amazes me is all of the different approaches being taken to try and find a cure. Who would have thought placenta growth factor could be the culprit? But what about pregnant women who see a cessation of symptoms during pregnancy? Maybe the combination of hormones and other things have a counter-affect? Thank goodness for the curious, driven minds of our scientists. [QUOTE=stemcell4me]Isn't it great, every country is working on finding possible cures.  I don't think this board is to interested in these kinds of things judging from the responses. LOL Its quite strange. I never think of somewhere like Korea trying to find cures...Its normally, europe, USA, Canada..etc...but not Korea..lol...Its Interesting reading though.

Do any Korean M.D.'s know about AP?Jan:

No, they are totally baffled by it, the ones I have talked to.  But they do write down the roadback.org site to research so they seem very willing to learn.

But I am living in the land of "magic juice."  Everyone goes on it for everything.  Want to cure snoring? Magic Juice.  Want to lose weight? Magic juice.  Got an ache or pain? Magic juice.  The ingredients are always at the direction of your Asian medicine doctor. What does it taste like????? Vomit.  I was on it for 15 days to help me with cramps.  It ended up helping me with that but the side effect was that I had my period for two months!
