Using a rollator (walker on wheels) | Arthritis Information

Anyone here had to resort to that? I've discovered that I can walk a great deal further without pain (or very little pain) if I push a shopping cart. Was looking online for a small cart of my own for use at Disney, mall, etc. They won't work! (They're designed to be "pulled".)

I did get some great advice from a message board that deals only with disabilities and they suggested a *rollator*. Had never heard of one but they do look as though they'd help a great deal. So....anyone here ever used one? If so, please tell us about it.

These come in three or four wheeled versions and are typically used outside. However, they can be effective when used indoors, particularly the three wheel versions.

Yes, that's what I was talking about!  Thank you for posting the picture.

I've dug my heels in for sooo long now telling myself that this PMR deal would end soon and I could avoid having to use such a thing. I feel *old* and very *depressed* even looking at them (rollators) online. Heck...my mother doesn't even have to have assistance walking!!!

I'm missing out on so many things and my poor husband is sitting home on his days off work to keep me company. He refuses to leave me and I feel guilty that I'm the cause of his boring lifestyle. We're only 38 minutes from Disney and have always had resident passes to EPCOT. Was a nice way to get exercise and we enjoyed eating at one of the restaurants in the World Showcase. Now, we both just sit.

So, either I bite the bullet and get one of those ugly things and try to live life again or I continue to sit and mark days of my life off on a calendar.

Bite the Bullet, life is too short, its not a rehearsal, you only get one shot at it  - so go for it and just do it.

From a 70 year old who has a Blue Disabled Parking Badge and who uses it to sit by the sea and park right outside the cafe and walk into it and grab the nearest seat  - yes two car lengths is all I can do.

Somebody invented it for you - don't waste their brains. Its you who are making you miss out on things.  Go for it gal and chuck the calendar out  - or put red letter days in it  - yes the days you go out with the 'rollator'.  Never ever let pmr defeat you.

Debj,

I know exactly how you feel!! I'm 34 and had to buy a raised toilet seat. I feel very young and sexy using that pretty white thing!! (wink, wink) But wow does it make my life easier.

I agree with Mrs. UK, life is short, PMR is a test-sometimes more mentally than physically. I know I feel better mentally when I have gotten out of my house. Take care.
Rollator users of the world unite!!!
Hi DebJ, have a look over on the rheumatoid website, there is a post on these over there within the last week by Janalex.

I am pretty sure if you phone Disney up, they may even hire them out as I had to get one at Australia Zoo and they hire them out.  Best of luck, I love mine.  Janie.
